The beautiful River Al, Garrycastle, Athlone. Much of the river's course has been culverted & diverted, but this stretch, a deep meandering channel, which gave the river its name, remains. Aill, means 'cliff'. A similar gorge nr. Castlepollard is called Sruth na hAille .. 1/2
