We are pleased to confirm the inclined lifts at the Tyne Pedestrian and Cyclist Tunnels are now in use. Read our full statement https://t.co/mrcUgnVdPS FAQs https://t.co/9RJgw1RqZN

Tunnels closed again today, and comments here and on Facebook show how unreliable the bus is for getting people on foot and on bike to work (and elsewhere) across the river. This has to be taken more seriously. @NTCouncilTeam @STyne_Council @NorthEast_CA @KiMcGuinness
The tunnels have now been closed since 31st Oct, with a couple of brief openings. There’s an intermittent bus replacement but this is a huge inconvenience for those walking & cycling. Can you imagine the storm if the car tunnels were closed for more than 2 weeks?

More and more UK councils are moving over, including our north-eastern neighbours @DurhamCouncil - any plans to add Bluesky to your social media portfolio @NTCouncilTeam? https://t.co/fbpOMyupPy

@NTCouncilTeam @NTynesideLab "On average, every 20 minutes someone in the UK is hit by an uninsured or hit-and-run driver - and each day at least one person suffers injuries so severe they need life-long care."

More data for @NTCouncilTeam @NTynesideLab to ponder as they abandon the Preston Road cycle scheme and go slow on other promised infrastructure. NE29 ranks 5th for the number of uninsured drivers. We're not sure Community Speedwatch is going to cut it. https://t.co/vlzMWWrxru

Ped & cycle tunnel still closed (and inclined lifts still stationary)
OPERATIONAL UPDATE: The Pedestrian and Cyclist Tunnels will be closed until Tuesday 12th Nov. We would like to apologise for the inconvenience caused to Tunnel users. We hope we can provide more positive updates soon, but for now please see below for replacement bus timetables.

Ped & cycle tunnel closed since 31st Oct, with some bus replacement, but big gaps in the timetable. And the ferry is on reduced crossings. It’s almost like no one cares how those walking and cycling might reliably get across the river.
OPERATIONAL UPDATE: The Pedestrian and Cyclist Tunnels will be closed on Friday 8th November. We would like to apologise for the inconvenience caused to Tunnel users. See below for replacement bus timetables and pick up points (the bus is free bus and has a bike trailer).

No cycle path for 100s of kids cycling to school, but expanded Community Speed Watch. "Ensuring all of our residents and visitors are safe on our roads is one of our top priorities" https://t.co/mpnETouvK4

Further volunteer speed watchers are set to be deployed by early 2025.

Just reviewing the plans for phase 2 of the Seafront Sustainable Route (aka @SunriseCycleway) and spotted this. Now @NTCouncilTeam have abandoned the Preston Rd route and made no substantive progress on the Tynemouth Rd route, how is access to North Shields being improved?
The abandonment of the Preston Road cyclepath by @NTCouncilTeam @NTynesideLab goes against so many of their commitments to cycling, active travel, regeneration, public health, and net zero. We want answers from the council and from leading councillors. https://t.co/1h4Xov28La

Look out for this bike. It was stolen from Jesmond pool today. If you see it, let us know and we will contact Sunil

We're pleased to see some coverage of our concerns over the abandonment of the Preston Road cycle scheme, highlighting our questions about how this fits with @NTCouncilTeam's commitments to active travel, net zero, and safe routes to school - and about the funding. @NTynesideLab

“Nexus has invested to improve the integration between cycling and Metro, by providing new high quality bike storage at Metro stations and interchanges. ” …right sentiment but much to improve still. @My_Metro @NTCouncilTeam

Something for @NTCouncilTeam @NTynesideLab @KCforNTyneside to mull over, as they abandon plans for a cycle route to a secondary school. Enabling children & young people to cycle to school is one of the easiest ways of dealing with inactivity & obesity. https://t.co/b83gao3Fwf
