The Penguins' 6 consecutive healthy games is (perhaps to no surprise) the longest such streak they've had going back to 2000/01 - only matched by a 6-gamer across two series during the 2012/13 playoffs
By unpopular demand, total man-games lost to injury/illness over the 2010s (excluding full seasons of players "retired" under contract).
This news will surely come as a shock to Canucks and Penguins fans.
The 9 players out for Vegas last night have a total AAV of $41.7m, which I think is the first time any team has gone past the $40m mark since I started tracking per game in 10/11 (so very likely ever, given cap inflation)
I’m hearing it’s unlikely Shea Theodore will be able to play tonight for the Golden Knights after that awkward fall against Carolina.
If you’re looking for good news, Zach Whitecloud has been progressing quickly, looks like he may even make his return tonight.

I'm not going to suggest one player can have this effect, but this is an impressive correlation between the games Marcus Foligno has missed (highlighted) and the Wild's xGF% going through the floor

This is the small group of 400+ MGL teams to make the playoffs since 2000/01.
Vegas and Colorado will join them this season, both still with a chance of getting past the 08/09 Blues' high mark of 465. (Vegas at 409, Colorado at 421 through 74 games.)
NHL injury summary through 5 January
Capitals reach halfway with more MGL than 15 of their past 21 full seasons and a higher $-weighted number than all but last year's (which they'll pass this week) - cap growth part of that, obviously, but way ahead of most years

Think I’m right in saying Merzlikins and Laine are the only two players in the whole league announced as being in Covid protocol this season. Them being the only two players in the whole league to have caught Covid this season seems…unlikely.
Laine has COVID and Merzlikins is still out with COVID, as well.
Larsen didn’t know specifics of when Laine went into COVID protocol, but he’s definitely questionable for Thurs at

Becomes only the fifth Star to miss a game with injury this season. Still only one game all season where the Stars have had as many as two players out injured.
Per Pete DeBoer: Joel Kiviranta is out tonight and for a little while moving forward with a lower body injury. Marian Studenic slots in from the AHL. He has history with Stars assistant coach Alain Nasereddine from their time together in New Jersey so that helps.

Note that some "injured" players will play in the team's first game and some not listed as "injured" will miss a game or more (but won't go on IR)
The Sabres and Avalanche were the only teams to have had 10+ players out injured/ill for at least a game in both the 20/21 and 21/22 seasons, so the Avalanche are primed to surge ahead by extending the streak to three seasons

comment earlier on concussion disclosure, this gives an idea of which teams have done so over recent years.
Have the Caps really only just had their first concussion in nine years?
Luke Glendening is out with an injury he suffered in overtime last night. He’s week-to-week, per Pete DeBoer. Huge blow to the Stars’ faceoff circle and penalty kill.
Freddy Olofsson is up. Scott Wedgewood in net today. Joe Kiviranta remains out. Lineup could change as well.

Might not tabulate it but I'll be including that in this thread after (but not immediately after) teams play their last game. I know Columbus already has had nobody dress for all 82.

Fantilli will likely become the 14th CBJ player to have an injury absence of 15+ games since the start of 22/23 (Bean, Blankenburg, Boqvist, Chinakhov, Danforth, Jenner, Laine, Mayer, Roslovic, Severson, Tarasov, Voráček, Werenski)
The Adam Fantilli timeline puts him out until around the end of March. By then, the season will be down to some 10 games left. Brutal for

but could have been much worse.
Ignoring a handful of teams that had a large number of players come out of Covid protocol at the same time last season, then the four Jets here do have the largest total AAV of any group of players returning in the same game going back to 2008/09 (cap inflation helps, clearly)
I asked Dom if any team has gotten the combined Game Score of Ehlers, Wheeler, Perfetti, and Schmidt back from injury on a single night before.
That's tough to pull up but, for trivia's sake:
Their GSVA numbers add up to "a lil more than one McDavid."
Last night was the first time the Red Wings had no players missing to injury/illness (ignoring LTIRetired cases) in 463 games - longest streak in the league by a distance.
I’ve not seen the score. Presume it went well?

Off the Blueger and now Zucker news, is it just me or do Pens have an inordinate # of players hurt for long periods of time?
Over the last 3.5 seasons alone, they've had 13 regulars out 15+ GP with one injury, not counting Blueger and Zucker. . .
Re Landeskog news: Can check later but the list of players in the past two decades to miss two whole seasons with injury and come back to the NHL is very short. Might be no longer than James Sheppard.
Faintly amusing piece of injury trivia:
I've got $-weighted injuries for each team going back as far as 2008/09. Vegas' cumulative number has now passed that of the Rangers despite the Rangers having a nine season head start.
