#MomentsOfBeauty in #Glasgow : There is something immensely satisfying, and very Glasgow, about the effortless, matter of fact way the huge classically detailed stone piers at Glasgow’s Central Station, support the beams and trusses carrying the glass roof over the concourse😮🥰!

#MomentsofBeauty from #Glasgow : And the utterly charming tenement award goes to😲! My OH spotted this on Shore Street in Campbeltown and swooned. Started life as a two storey Georgian building before getting a two storey late Victorian oriel bay windowed extension = very cute🥰!

#MomentsOfBeauty in #Glasgow : Talking about skylines, for me the most welcome development in recent years is how the graceful tower of Alexander ‘Greek’ Thomson’s Caledonia Road Church has resumed its rightful place as a focal point on the skyline of Glasgow’s Southside 🥰! 1/3

#MaintenanceMatters : A welcome sight stumbling across a squad with a cherry picker removing buddleja from the ‘A’ listed facades of Royal Exchange Square, #Glasgow ’s finest urban set piece. If left unchecked the buddleja’s roots will gradually prise apart and damage the stone 😥!

#MomentsOfBeauty in #Glasgow : This crisp winter sunshine is fabulous for showing off the warm tones of Glasgow’s blonde and red sandstone and only in Glasgow could you shift from full throated Scottish Baronial to full throated Edwardian Baroque in two such dramatic corners 🤩🥰!

Sorry to report that my gentle cat, Beanie, was put to sleep today having been unwell for a while - lethargic & off her food. We worked hard to turn it around but sadly her organs were failing. Here she is in happier days very pleased with her new bed. RIP my wee friend😔💔🐈🌈

#MomentsOfBeauty in #Glasgow : Allegedly over 160 years old, the lone Finnieston tree dominates the scene in front of the handsome ‘B’ listed Franklin Terrace of 1845 but this 75ft Ash does make you wonder how Argyle Street would look if it was a genuine tree lined avenue…🤔?!

#MomentsOfBeauty in #Glasgow : Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s #ArtNouveau mannerist entrance to the Glasgow Herald Building is a thing of joy. It’s like a zany 1960s hairdo. And check out the curious, almost primitive, corbels which have a great sense of movement about them 👇👀🥰!

#MomentsofBeauty in #Glasgow : It’s been a long week so you can guess what’s on my mind but does anyone want to guess where I am which is a great example of Modernist ornament with a mix of irregular patterned mosaic tile, fine natural grain marble and sans serif typeface🍻🤔🥰!?

#MomentsofBeauty in #Glasgow : a fine afternoon for a visit to Parkhead Cross - hands down the finest tenemental cross in #Glasgow for my money with all the stops pulled out in a terrific townscape crescendo. Erudite too, the tower in the 2nd image is based on the Old College🥰!

#MomentsofBeauty in #Glasgow : Good to see progress on @GovanhillBaths with the installation of a new roof light to the Steamie which looks so crisp and clear especially when compared to the former polycarbonate one which had gone milky in the sunlight. What a difference…😲🧐🥰!

#MomentsofBeauty in #Glasgow : dawn in the city was positively ethereal yesterday and the quality of light on a walk to #QueensPark very painterly. The effect was quite ghost like and hauntingly beautiful. It reminds me of why I love #Glasgow ...😮🥰!

#MomentsOfBeauty in #Glasgow : The charming corbelled cap-house to idiosyncratic architect Robert William Billings’ baronial warehouse celebrates the corner of Brunswick & Ingram Streets with style. It’s one of my Glasgow dream spaces. The perfect little artist’s garret…😴💭🥰!

#MomentsOfBeauty in #Glasgow : Finished my talk last night and walked out into a glorious West Coast of Scotland sunset with James Miller’s red sandstone Caledonian Mansions - one of Scotland’s finest tenements - glowing in the gloaming. Definitely feels like Spring now 🌱🥰👍!

I’ve been involved in efforts to save the Sir John Maxwell School for a while so it was with a heavy heart I viewed this👇on site yesterday. Sadly, such an uncontrolled collapse, which happened at a known weak point in the building fabric, means the game is probably up…😔! 1/4

#MomentsOfBeauty in #Glasgow : James Miller’s Union Bank looking resplendent in the morning sunshine🥰! Extraordinary that Gomme & Walker, the experts on Glasgow’s architecture, are so dismissive, seeing it as an example of the ‘opulent philistinism that drove Mackintosh out’🤔🤦‍♂️!

Call me sentimental but one of the reasons I wanted to save this school was because it’s architect, Arthur Donald Hamilton, died aged 34 on the first day of the Somme having declined a commission as he felt he should ‘serve in the line with everyone else’. That touched me…😢 4/4

Another #Glasgow building on the #BuildingsAtRiskRegister where @GlasgowHeritage has tried to help. The Lion Chambers by architect James Salmon Jr is probably the building most folk inquire about such is the interest. The problem, though, is fractured ownership within it…🤔😢!

#MomentsofBeauty in #Glasgow : though now a source of blight in the city centre architect Charles J McNair’s huge & colourful classical gateway of 1929 to the O2 ABC is one of Sauchiehall Street’s most memorable moments so I very much hope someone will save it from demolition🙏🥺!

#MomentsofBeauty in #Glasgow : Want to see the finest courtyard in Glasgow🥰? Such a shame it’s given over to cars & bins😢! Imagine if it were open to the public, glazed over like the British Museum and used to display the best of Glasgow’s civic collection🤔? Maybe one day🤷‍♂️!
