AI bolt-ons are top-down. The future of AI is bottoms-up. Every software is adding AI, but they create it for you. They decide how it works. The future of AI is inverted. It's personalized to each person in an org. AI needs the flexibility to be built rather than bolted.

Middle to middle is a fancy way of explaining the AI Sandwich. Starts w humans (the bread) creating context, asking the question 🍞 . AI is the meat & cheese in the middle doing its work 🧀 . Then it’s human verifying on the bottom 🍞 . it might go club sammy- back and forth.
Why the AI job loss narrative is overhyped: AI models still need to be prompted and verified, often iteratively, to drive business value. As @balajis says, AI is middle-to-middle, not end-to-end. Humans do the stuff at the ends (supervision); AI does the stuff in the middle.

The trillion dollar opportunity in enterprise software is AI Agents. The reason for this is AI Agents expand many software categories because most tools have been constrained by the number of users on the other end of the tool. Enterprise software traditionally enabled people.

Hard to believe it is still early.
Pew have updated their ChatGPT polling from a year ago. Usage has roughly doubled since summer 2023. The share of employed adults who use ChatGPT for work has roughly tripled over the same period to 28%. Two thirds of US adults have still not yet used ChatGPT.

Measure moonshots not minutes.
McKinsey's new report on AI agents shows the same mindset I see in many firms: a focus on making small, obsolete models do basic work (look at their suggested models!) rather than realizing that smarter models can do higher-end work (and those models are getting cheaper & better)

AI use is ubiquitous & leads to performance gains at the individual level that are not passed on to organizations. In a representative survey of US workers, 43.2% now use generative AI at work. They use it for 1/3 of their tasks & report a tripling of productivity on those tasks.
