Is the Fe(IV) intermediate in non-heme iron enzymes always in an S = 2 spin state? Answer is No. A collaborative study by @lbgee1, Chang @NCStateChem, @Prof_SJE and Liu @BUChemistry, and us @CMU_Chem revealed the first S = 1 Fe(IV) in non-heme catalysis.
