I use '1,2,3 eyes on me' and children reply with '1, 2 eyes on you'. I used it in my training year, as the teacher already used it, and the children were great with it! So I've used it ever since 😊.

I'm going to choose one child at the end of each day to have some free time for 5/10 minutes with a friend of their choice. Year 5's loved it in my training and they could do anything they liked - read, draw, play cards, ipad time, sit and relax, play memory games.

From the DFE document 'The Recovery Curriculum', our school has suggested planning more mindfulness and wellbeing activities into the school day. Does anyone have any suggestions of activities for Year 6? I find they get quite bored with mindfulness colouring.

I like to use those glass jars with a lid and layer oats, frozen fruit (raspberries, blueberries ect) and yoghurt into it. Then the fruit is defrosted by the time i'm at work and it's semi healthy 😆. When I'm not feeling healthy it's usually pain au chocolats 🤣🤣

The idea of a 3D shape being laid flat to find surface area is a difficult concept to grasp... Until now! Loved these pull-up shapes we made today for surface area and volume!

A small tip but choosing only one word/phrase for certain things rather than using lots of different ones. For example instead of: well done/great work/fantastic/super for praising... just use 1 so he understands/learns that when he hears this, he has done something good. 😊

I've just purchased 'Short and Scary' a book of short, scary stories. During my training, I saw a Year 6 teacher read a couple of short stories to her class at the end of each day - the class literally couldn't get enough of them. They BEGGED for one more story every time. 🤣🤣

Love the idea of this working wall!
Lots of people have been asking me where I got the material for my maths working wall. It’s blue check pvc from dunelm , roughly one metre square and then clear pvc in the same size over the top (otherwise pens don’t rub out). Links below!!

It's not a text so not sure if it will be any use ...but the Alma video from Literacy Shed was great for my class. All the children could access it and were really engaged with it. We did lots of writing from it.

We have TTRS assemblies where we celebrate most improved players of each class or winners of Battles etc. We bought lots of wigs and blow up guitars and everyone 'rocks out' at the front of the assembly hall to the suggested TTRS rock songs on the website - they LOVE it 🤘🤘

I made this for my training last year. I placed the black arrow where I wanted the noise level. Then at certain parts of the lesson I asked children to place the yellow arrow where they thought the noise level was at. If it was higher, they had one chance to lower it... xxx

I used a number line to 30 last year with a counter. Moved the counter forward for good behaviour but also moved the counter back 1 or 2 spaces if they didn't make the right choices/talked over me/didn't listen. If we reached 30 by Friday the class had a treat of their choice.

Awww yes I know what you mean. After uni, I felt the same... I swapped crisps for snack-a-jacks and those fibre bars are great (all different flavours for a sweet snack). Stay confident lovely, you deserve snacks in the day! Especially when we start our nqt year! Xx

With it only being 15 mins, you could do a discussion/experimental based session on what units or equipment they would use to measure real life objects. Eg. Finger nail, rubber, pencil, length of classroom/playground.

No, I'm not a fan of the oats going soggy so I just make it in the morning...i'm guessing you could do that though! The yoghurt and juice from the defrosted fruit makes it so the oats aren't really dry. X
