School leaders can reduce workload for teachers overnight in 3 quick fixes: 1. Remove colours from marking policies 2. Remove frequency from marking policies 5. Assume meetings are the equivalent cost as a lesson. Are they needed? Effective? Cut down the time by 30 minutes.

Teachers are not motivated by salary or targets, they do not leave teaching (predominantly) because of behaviour or pay, they leave teaching because of workload and the increasing requests to complete meaningless tasks that provide little or no value to their moral compass.

Just reading up on a school who is managing staff wellbeing: Every week they arrange ‘Thank yous’ and birthdays. "We also ask ‘Is there anything to shout-out about?’ and do ‘Staff of the Term.’ All staff nominate someone who has gone the extra mile = they get paid a day’s leave."

I’ve just walked past a school, with an OFSTED outstanding badge, made from acrylic, drilled to the outside of their school gates. If we all stopped doing this kind of stuff, we’d remove any kind of OfSTED obsession parents and teachers have with inspection. #OfSTEDBanners

I don’t have a problem with 4, 6 and 11 year olds being tested in our primary schools. Testing knowledge is good. The real issue is ‘how’ the data is used for school accountability, which leads to all sorts of interesting things we see happening in some of our secondary schools.

One thing @BorisJohnson could do is involve all headteachers in managing schools. Daily briefings at 5PM are unhelpful if schools have gone home for the day and school leaders have to prepare for the day ahead. Lack of any decision on school closures is increasing anxiety...

If anyone needs a reminder. Teachers across England work the longest hours and receive one of the lowest salaries in all OECD countries. Research shows that the public's perception of teachers' pay/hours also doesn't correlate with reality. Go, on, ask me for the research.
