It's clear the Taliban have undertaken a systematic campaign to remove women from Afghan society—eliminating education for girls and forbidding women from appearing in public. A country that undertakes such gender persecution will never be safe for women and girls.

There were 71,000 deportations in the first half of June alone, according to U.N. estimates. These Afghan refugees are returning to a country in the throes of a humanitarian crisis.
