"Pleased that @POTUS reversed his pause of Ukraine's air defense deliveries. But the devil is in the details. Reports of partial deliveries only partially defend Ukrainian civilians. Ukraine needs consistency in its support. Not stop-start whim-based assistance." -@SenatorShaheen.

"I'm pleased to see @SecRubio lifted additional restrictions on Syria's new authorities this week. This is a critical step towards removing the barriers preventing Syria's recovery from decades of war and instability." -@SenatorShaheen.

Nhat sleeps on the floor of an overcrowded 29-person cell where he is barred from receiving outside medical care or getting family visits. He must be released and reunited with his daughter and USAGM must resume required support for @RadioFreeAsia.

As the US Agency for Global Media withholds Congressionally appropriated funds for @RadioFreeAsia, advocacy for their jailed journalists—like Nhat—has been disrupted. The Trump Administration and USAGM are playing directly into the hands of those who seek to stifle free speech.

"This week, I'm proud to highlight @RadioFreeAsia journalist Truong Duy Nhat, who was abducted in Thailand and sent to Vietnam against his will. It's clear those who took away Nhat's freedom feel threatened by the truth. Nhat's blog posts are not a crime." -@SenatorShaheen.
"Each week, I'll highlight jailed journalists who work for U.S. supported independent outlets to provide truth in repressive environments. I urge my Senate colleagues and the @StateDept to join me in standing up for truth in countries with no press freedom." -@SenatorShaheen.

The continued detention of @Succes_MASRA in Chad is beyond appalling, and his release should be immediate. The jailing of opposition figures undermines prospects of democracy and transparency in a country that has clamored for change. His case is being closely monitored.
#Chad: We condemn the continued detention of opposition leader @Succes_MASRA, and urge the gov't to respect his rights to liberty, fair trial, and freedoms of expression & association, and desist from attacks on citizens, political parties, and movements.

.@SenatorShaheen is pleased that @POTUS appears to have reversed "the dangerous and shortsighted decision made by @SecDef and @USDPColby," however it's unfortunate that last week's decision sent the wrong message and came with "a tragic human cost.". More⬇️

"The Kremlin’s decision to recognize the Taliban is a disgrace," said @SenatorShaheen. "The Taliban continue to subject Afghan women and girls to atrocious repression and persecution. Russia should not be rewarding this oppression.".

As the Trump Administration touts a deal between DRC and Rwanda, it has left victims of rape without access to care in Eastern DRC—a conflict where sexual violence is rampant. Victims will require life-long care for HIV infections that could have been avoided with USAID's help.

"This is not a policy of consensus—it is a reckless, illegal and deeply unpopular move that runs counter to the bipartisan legacy of USAID.". -@SenatorShaheen on the last day for many USAID personnel following the Trump Admin’s dismantling of the agency.

The Kremlin is thrilled by @SecDef and @USDPColby's move to halt munitions and weapons shipments to Ukraine—despite President Trump's pledge just last week to do the opposite. This reckless decision allows Putin to further string Trump along and play for time on the battlefield.
Completely expected. The Kremlin welcomed the US decision to cut weapons shipments to Ukriane. “The less weaponry is supplied to Ukraine, the sooner the [invasion] will end,” spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters, according to Interfax.

"When U.S.-funded media outlets like @VOANews are targeted, courageous reporters are left unprotected. Their bravery in the face of repression demands our attention. I urge my colleagues to stand with me to support and protect @USAGM journalists like Ulviyya." -@SenatorShaheen.

"This week, I'm proud to highlight Ulviyya Ali, a @VOANews reporter jailed in Azerbaijan for exposing human rights abuses," said @SenatorShaheen. "In her final message before her arrest, Ulviyya warned that 'the Azerbaijani state has no tolerance left for independent media.'".
