But you are responsible for prolonging it by consistently preventing or delaying EU actions to punish the aggressor. An aggressor that threatens the security of all of the EU. You chose the side of Russia. Now you are reaping what you sowed.

Ukraine only bombed Russian sites, not Hungary. And if you're relying on Russia for energy security, remember the video they put out about freezing Europe to death during winter? You've had three years to secure energy from other sources. Lack of security is your failure, not 🇺🇦.

Ukraine wants security, Russia wants territory. One of those things is legitimate, the other is not.

Decade ago, coal was a third of UK electricity generation. The last coal power plant closed last year. Its much more expensive than renewables and pollutes with CO2 and particulates. It's not going to be a key feature of NZ's economy. In 40 or 50 years. 4 or 5 years also doubtful.

I should add, Portugal's attempts to keep hold of its African Empire resulted in the fall of its dictator. Russia's attempts to rebuild the Russian Empire will have the same consequences. Helping Ukraine today will speed up that process and minimise innocent lives lost.

The US gave up the Philippines, won during the Spanish-American war. Western European countries gave up their empires, won in battle. Russia, by contrast, is unwilling to give up its Empire.

Under the Budapest Memorandum, Ukraine surrendered its nuclear weapons for guarantees from Russia that its borders were inviolable, and promises from the US that it would protect Ukraine from invasion. Given neither have happened, why would Ukraine accept another such deal?.

We have learned what comes from politicians promising peace in our time through appeasement, or trying to carve up Europe on the back of a napkin. Lasting peace will only happen once Russia is utterly defeated.
