So hard to believe it's been 15 years. This is a huge year for Miles. He'll have the Le Fort III procedure done in the summer. It'll require relearning how to chew & talk but it's best for his overall health. Meantime we celebrate his 15th BD with sledding, cake and presents.
I get questions all the time asking how Miles is doing after his surgery? The docs are very happy and so are we with his progress. Got the back to school haircut today and has a job interview tomorrow. He's a good kid.
Miles had a pretty good first night post op. The head wrap should come off later today so he can wear his hearing aids. Then it's a matter of managing the pain and swelling. Slept without a CPAP for the first time in years last night, O2 never dropped before 95%.
Seriously now. I really can't express how excited I am for my oldest to start at Central HS. I think (hope) it's the perfect academic and social environment for him. Starting remotely isn't good for his learning style. But hopefully we'll have him ready when in class returns.
Desmond Howard on
@CollegeGameDay
calls Nebraska the loudest 5 win program in the country. Then Kirk Herbstreit says oh I know I've been dealing with them for 20 years. I guess folks got under both their skins at some point.
#huskers
Here's Miles, 5 weeks post-op. Still along way to go with being allowed to chew and working on his speech, and overall jaw mobility but he's feeling pretty good. Plus he's officially stealing my t-shirts.
Swelling starting to go down a little. Gonna be on soft foods for a few weeks. Not bad for someone who's face was broken and then put back together over 9 hours of surgery on Thursday.
Today is
#MicrotiaAwarenessDay
. Microtia is from the Latin term that means "Little ears". We met with multiple reconstruction docs about getting Miles "new" ears but in the end Miles wanted to keep his "little ears". Shout out to all the kids with "little ears".
On two of Tominaga's threes Jamarcus Lawrence was wide open and waving in the corners. He didn't mope or complain, he celebrated for KT. Then next time down Tominaga kicked it over to Lawrence and he was pure. Team ball.
My oldest spent a good while outside saying bye to his buddy Jack. Thanks to the South Omaha Vet Clinic for coming to the house, so we could all be there when Jack passed on. We got Jack in 2014 at the age of 5. He was a good dog who loved getting in the trash and ear rubs.
Guess who turning 18 today? Our oldest has been thru a lot over the years. I'm so happy that he has grown into the funny, hard working and talented young man he has. Happy Birthday Miles!
This could be one of the silliest things I have read all day and it's been one hell of a silly day. I'm sure the kids suffering from epilepsy, soliders suffering from PTSD and cancer patients disagree.
Nebraska Gov. Pete Ricketts said during a press conference today that “there is no such thing as medical marijuana” and called cannabis “a dangerous thing” amid a legal challenge to a ballot measure seeking legalization in the state.
Everytime a baby is born perfectly healthy it's kind of a miracle. So many things can go wrong. Kids are such blessings in so many ways but you should feel a little extra blessed when they are healthy.
Thanks to everyone who called, tweeted and emailed today wishing me well with whatever the next job might be. Gonna miss being part of the
@1620TheZone
family on a daily basis. It was a tough decision but hopefully the next career will be as awesome as the last 26 years.
I'm excited to be starting a new job with
@CityofPapillion
as the Video and Digital Specialist. Long time journalist Torri Pantaleon is retiring at the end of the month so I'll have big shoes to fill. I will still be hosting
@BigRedWrapUp
during the
#Huskers
season as well.
It is never a happy time when people get fired. I said the same thing when Pelini was let go. Folks with lots of pride and families that get uprooted. Say thank you for your service and let it be.
You know what they say, walk tall but carry a big stick! Happy 16th birthday buddy. I'm always so thankful we live in Omaha with all the wonderful pediatric doctors, nurses and specialists that helped get Miles to this point.
Now if one of them could just teach him to drive!
Imagine being the politician who listens to a parent plead to you for them to be able to use medical marijuana to treat their child, their suffering child and your answer is it's going to kill your kid. In Nebraska you don't even have to imagine it.
If you took the time to get out your ruler and measure the snow this morning, "You might be a Nebraskan".
If your basketball team gave up 95 points to Penn state, "You Might be a Nebraskan"
If Spring football can't get here soon enough, "You Might be a Nebraskan"
@scottshanle
You could have added Big 12 and AP coach of the year and the only coach in Temple history with two 10 wins seasons. And wanted to come here.
Potato soup is something I never heard of until I moved to Nebraska. First time I had it was at Don and Millie's. I have been trying to perfect it ever since. I think today's batch is the best I've ever made. Extra bacon is the key.
It was one heck of a long drive with all the bad weather but it was worth it so the boys could see their grandma for the first time since March.
#NOLATrip
There were a lot of people who thought Solich was done after the '03 K State. We all knew Callahan was done at halftime of Okie St. Bo had a couple of games but probably 2014 Wisc. And Riley Northern Illinois. I feel for the assistants, players and even Frost. Failing sucks.
Seriously that 13 minutes of answers from Trev Alberts might be the best we have seen in two decades from a Husker administrator in front of the media. It was masterful in it's simplicity, honesty and bluntness. The man certainly does look and sound the part.
I don't think it's debatable. It's the biggest week in
#Huskers
football in the last decade.
5/6 OSU coming to town, College Gameday, New FB facility?
"It's a special time for Nebraska football"
Garrett Nelson speaking passionately about the difference between just okay and being better than that. Giving lots of examples. Pretty sure he gets it.
And the youth will lead them.
My favorite quote from the Colorado before the game in the press box moments was one of the Buffs internet sites reporters saying "why is the Big 10 Network here? Is Nebraska in the Big 10?" FWIW the B1G reporter handled it very well and eventually moved seats.
I remember when Miles had his 2nd jaw distraction. The doc said he'll have a few more of these, then something called a Le Fort procedure when he's around 16/17. We'll that day is tomorrow. 3 docs, 5 hours. He asked the doc, will I be able to chew with my mouth closed? Doc, yes.
We've reached the point where people say something enough times that it's just accepted as fact. Rhule and company didn't "run off" Casey Thompson. He couldn't practice in the Spring so of course he was behind the other QBs. He went looking for a starting spot, simple as that.
When I was 10 my dad died and the only woman I ever called mom took me in and with that gave me three wonderful sisters. We lost one of those women yesterday. All I can say about Bernadette is my life was made so much better because she was in it. We are heartbroken.
Hard to envision a worse start the season. Two losses sure are bad but even worse it seems like NU is stuck in a situation where your QB just isn't good enough to confidently lead your team. 10 games left and you have a defense that is seemingly out there by themselves.
A special shout out goes out to all the folks in operations, media relations, production & everyone who make the Huskers games run so smoothly. 4 home games in row with 3 of them night games takes a lot out of those workers. Good work & one more until you can rest for a minute.
I seem almost a dozen coaches fired as a reporter. I have never seen a guy more universally loved as Mike Riley. Everyone make sure to get a handshake or hug. Lots of good luck and we'll miss yous.
It's none of my business but I've now heard 4 different media people say NU isn't better talent wise than last yr. That's insanity. Either you are greatly overestimating last year's roster or haven't watched the guys coming in. Better at WR/RB/QB/DL/OLB/and KO/PR.
BREAKING: Nebraska lands 4-star LB Christian Jones.
A top in-state prospect, Jones cites the culture Matt Rhule is building as the main piece of his decision.
Huskers will play him as a WILL where his 10.89 speed will be an asset.
For the past 10 days or so we have been trying to find things my oldest could eat following his tongue surgery. From broths to soups to mashed potatoes, oatmeal, grits, pudding and smoothies. Well today we hit paydirt. Steamed Kirkland potstickers. Tried 1 and has eaten a dozen.
As red Spikes said on our show delete your accounts, go through all your messages, everything you said about Bud Crawford getting out class by Errol Spence, delete it throw it away put it away, DELETE YOUR ACCOUNT!

undisputed welterweight champ.
Who exactly designed the driving patterns in the city of Lincoln? I mean even trying to get into grocery stores and or strip malls off the main streets is a disaster. And trying to get across town is like surviving hell.
Bittersweet announcement.
Today's the final show for

. It's been a fun 5.5 years. Thanks to all the folks that made the show possible especially
@Sausha72
for putting up with me.
I'm going to miss all the folks at

Good to see

making plays for the Niners. Here's Randy back at

for special need kids night. I'll never forget that event.
The kids are bringing home stuff from throughout the school year and I found this poem my 12 year old wrote. Everything pretty much chokes me up but this was at a different level.
From 2005 to 2015 Temple had 7 players drafted into the NFL.
From 2016 to 2019 they had 11.
Baylor had 6 players drafted in 2022. Matt Rhule's teams do a pretty good job of recruiting and developing players that end up in the NFL.
It really is amazing how time passes in the hospital. Feels like we have been here for days, but we actually arrived at 5:30a. Miles is doing well after a few smaller procedures combined into one OR visit.
A few things from the
#huskers
game on Saturday. First of all MF'n props to NU fans. That was incredible. Leading up to the game and the first 20 or so minutes were as electric as I have ever seen for a day game. Be proud, the end sucked but Nebraska fan is one of a kind.
So much wasted yesterday. I thought Lamar Jackson played the best game of his career. K Davis was great, Dedrick Young might have played his best game as a
#huskers
LB and Luke Gifford provided some needed pass rush when allowed. Of course Ozigbo too.
Sad story from Facebook, former Husker Chris Dishman posted that his wife passed away.
"Today I lost my best friend. I’m crushed and confused. I will love you for always babe
Til I see you again Audra Dishman
Please keep our family in you prayers."
Dish is such a good dude
I tell anyone who listens that Kevin is one of the best local sports guys I have ever watched. Natural, thoughtful and hard working. Can't ask for more than that from a Broadcaster/Journalist.
I get that people are disappointed & upset about the play of the
#Huskers
defense but take a step back for a second & list the NFL players on the defense. Maybe Chinander won't be the guy in the long run but these are the same guys that played last season. Maybe let them recruit
Occasionally emotions get the best of us on the air. That happened to me yesterday during the crossover when talking about my son's freshman year at Central.
Thank to all of you parents who reached out with your stories, encouragement and advice.
They meant a lot.
I have a few jobs already but honestly I will volunteer to help with end of half and end of game clock management if they really need it. (They need it)
