I believe there’s a version of love bombing that can happen in academia in which a potential mentor showers student/trainee/mentee with praise early and fast. The junior person feels like it’s about them and their work, but really it’s about the mentor’s need to feel needed.
Love bombing is when someone you've just met showers you with attention and affection. It can feel intoxicating, but it's actually a form of emotional manipulation. HOW TO SPOT IT (🧵):
