Here is how indirects work. A portion of a scientist’s NIH grant goes to the university—not as a slush fund, but mostly to support research. Some of it even comes back to the researcher. Why? Because grants cover specific expenses, and science often requires general funds. For

I'm not sure non-academics really comprehend the magnitude of this. You're talking about hundreds of universities losing 10's to 100's of million in budget PER YEAR. Higher Ed's future already looked bleak. This cements it. Like it or not, the 100 yr model is likely dead.
Can you believe that universities with tens of billions in endowments were siphoning off 60% of research award money for “overhead”? What a ripoff!

Boston is on track to end 2024 with the fewest number of homicides in nearly seven decades, mirroring a national trend of decreased violent crime and bolstering its status as one of the safest large cities in the United States.

City officials in a press conference Friday described the decrease as validation of efforts to better coordinate policing, social services, and violence intervention outreach in the city.

It remains underreported how significant Dept of Ed resources got reallocated from FAFSA implementation to student loan foregiveness, with the result being a material decline in low-income college enrollment this year.

Federal, state, and institutional financial aid covers tuition for families with low household incomes, but students often don’t realize it.
