The

is running a series of special events through 2024 to honour the service of 1.7 million servicemen and women in conjunction with the 80th anniversary of D-Day.
Take advantage of this opportunity now!
@drphilhammond
Ireland's GDP numbers aren't comparable to other developed nations: big corporations route big chunks of money through there, without material impact on the local economy. Compare Irish wealth or income figures and you'll see this clearly.
There are 363 war graves maintained by the

on the Isle of Man. Local volunteers reconnect with the history and heritage on our doorstep by undertaking inspection visits to ensure each grave is in a good condition.
Congratulations to the new members-elect for Douglas South, Claire Christian & Paul Quine. I'm sorry to have fallen at the final count by such a narrow margin, but the public very rarely get it wrong. I'm sure that Mrs Christian and Mr Quine will be fine servants of Douglas South

“The use of the English language is really dangerous. It appears to be used by hateful users to communicate with their followers.”
@samstein
If you think there's a credible chance that a politician will use their political power in this manner, then that seems like a criticism of the politician, not the critic.
I'm running as a candidate for Douglas East in the election on 23 September with a focus on serving local, playing local, meeting local, and, most of all, on loving local - for all of us.
I've got a spare single room in my apartment at Douglas - if you know anyone affected by the flooding at Laxey (or elsewhere in IOM) who needs a dry roof and bed, they're welcome to it
Just dropped off my nomination forms to officially get on the ballot paper on 27 August. I'm so grateful to have already received so much support across our community.
The decision of the Isle of Man police to post pictures of them training to use tasers on people in the back when there are worldwide protests against excessive use of force is at best tone deaf, and at worst inflammatory and intimidating of Manx people.
@robbysoave
Even if what she said was true, and that it is particularly harmful to children (I doubt it is) then that seems to further undermines an OHSA mandate, since children generally have low labour force participation rates (because they're children!)
I just saw Manx Radio report on the Chief Minister being unhappy about people spreading "misinformation."
He's right: people who spread false claims should be held accountable for them.
Prosecuting young men for possessing trivial amounts of cannabis in the privacy of their own home is not a good use of taxpayer resources. It is time to manage and control cannabis carefully for the benefit of our community.
*Reducing* the checks on people coming to the Isle of Man is a batshit crazy strategy now that we have gone four weeks with no identified cases.
We should be tightening checks, not reducing them!
The downside to being the only boy amongst 83 women at the Manx Netball Association awards night is having to sing the boy's part of "Summer Loving" as a solo
I'm grateful to everyone who supported me at every step of the way - I regret letting you down in this way, but the support across the Isle of Man has been truly humbling.
Our laws and punishments need to reflect our values as a community. I've heard the community outrage over appallingly soft punishments given to the monsters who sexually abuse children. This must change.
Hey
@BBCNews
- Can you please remove the Isle of Man from your map of the United Kingdom?
In normal circumstances it'd just be wrong, but in this context, it couldn't be further from the truth.
We now have the hypocrisy of trained "health and safety" personnel getting only suspended sentences for Coronavirus breaches, while a poor unemployed Manx man gets prison.
This is not a just system.
Literally no one would damn the Chief Minister if he told us the truth openly, honestly and promptly. We understand pandemics are tough - which is why we want to just be treated like adults, and told of the decisions as soon as they're made.

I feel that German Nazism, Italian Fascism, Iraqi Baathism, and Japanese Imperialism were each resoundingly defeated by military force.
The double standards are obvious here. Grieving family can't care for loved ones, but police can wear masks and enter homes while making happy videos for social media.
I'm resigning as Chair of Liberal Vannin, effective from Monday 11 Jan. I'm resigning to focus on a new professional challenge: establishing a new, Manx-based, not-for-profit organisation which I want to ensure is non-partisan.
Mum tells me this is m by the first-ever photo, and now today, on my 40th birthday, I'm so very grateful for the friends who have put the smile on my face. Thanks y'all!
You've been thrown a tough turn of events,
@BorisJohnson
, but I have every hope, faith and confidence that you will stand again. Our love and hope is with you, your family, and everyone else afflicted by this terrible disease.

But it did! It is solving problems! The problem of saving lives!
One of my biggest errors ~5 years ago was mistakenly believing the argument that the EU was a good, wholesome, cooperative project. I was deceived. I was wrong. I'm big enough to admit that I was wrong: are you?

The problem with this joke is that it requires some degree of historical literacy, which does not seem plentiful amongst the targets of this joke.
My grandfather had eleven brothers and sisters murdered by white supremacists.
My father couldn't join certain clubs because of his religion.
I've been welcomed lovingly as a migrant to these Isles by a warm and giving community.

Apparently the airport in the Isle of Man isn’t open yet... so we’ve pulled over in Manchester! Not getting off of course. Can someone let them know
@gsyrugbyacademy
are on the way? 😉
@mkhammer
It's also not true. It's not as if the USA withdrew from Vietnam or Iraq or Afghanistan because of the air superiority of the opposing forces.
23 minutes from arriving at the Vaccination Hub to taking the booster shot and leaving. Seems like a very small cost for the benefit of lowering the risk of covid.
I'm grateful to have been elected as the Chair of the Liberal Vannin Party. Liberalism is probably the greatest force for good in history. Let us hope that liberalism continues to prosper, and that we can be faithful custodians of building upon what our forebears have left us.
Some people think that the Government has the capacity to reshape human society, change the temperature of the planet, end bad thinking, and build a utopia.
But in the real world, our Government doesn't even have the capacity to deploy a waterslide.
The establishment of a government-run airline on the Isle of Man should be "considered at the highest level [to] obtain the level of air services necessary", a travel watchdog has said.
@simongerman600
Here's an alternative version, from Wikipedia, which is probably better (it draws a difference between British Isles and British Islands)
Also, the Good Friday Agreement had a good turn of phrase: "these Isles" rather than British Isles.
@afneil
Some people are happy about their transitions.
Some people are regretful about their transitions.
A mature community would discuss the facts openly and honestly, recognising that all policies have costs and benefits. But this issue has been derailed by ideologues.
With the money saved by not having the usual Tynwald Day garden party for "VIPs" at Government House, the Isle of Man Government should host a series of garden parties over the extra-long August bank holiday weekend for the key workers who have served us admirably this year
NEWS: People wishing to report a positive result from a Lateral Flow Covid test are being urged not to clog up the 111 line by hanging on the phone.
It’s as the service is facing a large influx of calls, many for this reason.

Grooming children by having drag queens in Isle of Man school classrooms is vile. The Manx education hierarchy is either asleep at the wheel at protecting children, or complicit in this awfulness.
@NateSilver538
If you're not seeing those takes, you should radically change your consumption of UK media and/or American commentators on the UK and Europe.
🚨🚨🚨🚨
Health Minister David Ashford has just released a statement on throwing out Manx COVID-19 vaccinations: He says it was not possible to find people who were willing to come for a vaccination.
🚨🚨🚨🚨
They said last week that every adult in the Isle of Man will be vaccinated by May! Once we're all vaccinated, maintaining tight restrictions don't make any sense.
Last night was a great evening to speak with the Douglas Cub Scouts about the

If you're thinking about comparing some modern day Government decision/action to the Nazis today, please don't.
It simultaneously makes a mockery of your claim, and also trivialises the evils of what the Nazis did.
WANT TO MOVE TO THE ISLE OF MAN? ARE YOU A NONCE? WELL THIS IS THE PLACE FOR YOU! LOW SENTENCES!! "STUPID AND FOOLISH DECISION" SLAPPED ON U INSTEAD OF GOING TO PRISON!! WHAT MORE COULD U WANT
