These photos are a year apart. One at my lowest, suicidal and at breaking point. The other embracing life and feeling positive about the future 🥰
Often those who are hurting don’t always appear to be. They don’t cry or break down. They smile and continue existing.

Just got a call from
@NHSuk
asking me to donate my blood plasma for COVID patients.
After 20mins of speaking and providing all my details to be told I can’t donate as I’m a gay man 🙄
I’m back working on a ambulance in North Essex for one shift only!
I’m currently on leave in the UK but wanted to return to the
@EastEnglandAmb
to familiarise myself with the service again. North Essex was the first locality I worked for once qualifying as a Paramedic 💚

My role is very diverse here, today I was tasked with testing 34 people on a visiting vessel to ensure they were covid free before allowing them to exploring St Helena 😄
Senior Paramedic Vacancy! 🚑
Come and join me in St Helena, one of the worlds most remote islands! Closing date September 12th.
Message me should you need anymore information ☺️
Looking for a Paramedic to join me in St Helena and to look after my team whilst I’m away on leave 😄
Message me if you have any questions regarding the role or life here on St Helena!
Today we delivered the first training session to our emergency operators. Currently, ambulance calls are received directly by the hospital but soon with the creation of our own call taking software all emergency calls will be handled by the emergency operations centre ☎️ 🚑
Attending this job as the first paramedic on scene was challenging. I’m so glad to hear that Haydn is recovering well 💚
If it wasn’t for this program I would have never known his outcome, something which had played on my mind for awhile.

This week we took part in a major incident at the airport. The exercise tested how the airport and local agencies would respond to an aircraft crash.
As the ambulance service is only a team of 6 - we have to call on other HCP within health and responders to assist us!
Words cannot describe how thankful I am to
@classprofession
for their generosity! Just had this huge order of books delivered to help me within my new role with
@StHelenaGovt
- lots of training materials for current ambulance drivers and future Paramedics! 🚑
@ParamedicsUK
This month my role involved developing a medical event plan for the visit of the Seven Seas Voyager. This was the first cruise ship to visit St Helena, since the lifting of covid quarantine restrictions.

Off road rescue! Saint Helena ‘Amber 2’ gets us to patients in more rural locations!
Not the most comfortable ride and you have to lift the stretcher up and inside *cries for my back* 😂

But women and straight men are still able to contract HIV - and just because you think you’re in a monogamous relationship doesn’t mean your partner is being unfaithful, not sure this really reduces the risk.
Prison induction this week, as I’ll be offering a weekly clinic for any health issues they may be experiencing. Learning lots here already!
The prison was build in 1827 and can hold up-to 25 prisoners. It was previously used as the local custody by police on the island. 👮🏻♂️
Not often am I sacred in my job, but last night was the worst obstetrics emergency I’ve ever seen. PPH, approx 1.5L blood loss with no back up available 🥴
I understand that everyone is feeling pressures within the NHS, but that’s no excuse for senior managers to speak to others with such little respect with the intention to belittle them. Only for them to later expect you to go above and beyond your duties to help them 🥴 1/2
Another successful day, providing medical cover for a visiting cruise ship. Doing our bit to support tourism for the island.
This is the view from the hospital in Saint Helena 😍

This weekend we said goodbye to Ben who has been working here in St Helena for 8 weeks covering my role.
Huge thank you to Ben and
@OFFICIALWMAS
for supporting us and taking good care of the team - safe journey home ☺️
Last night I was drunk and messaged Elon Musk - “I’d like to be rich aswell and open a dog creche. Can I have some money please xoxo”.
I’m still to receive a reply 🙃😅
Heading to a developing country in the coming months to improve their prehospital care and train ambulance staff. Looking to source some materials to help them….Anyone have any ideas of where I could possibly source donations? 👀 🚑
I love my career as a paramedic, but even more, I love educating my team and watching them develop. I love to witness the impact it has on our community and our ability to provide a service.
My role here in St Helena wouldn't be possible without my teams support 💚

I’m now a
@Qualsafe
approved Trainer/Assessor! 😄
We can now provide UK accredited training locally on St Helena, reducing costs while developing our pre-hospital care roles, ensuring we build a responsive workforce capable of providing support should a major incident occur 🚑
A busy weekend here in St Helena, providing medical cover for the king’s coronation, several on-call emergencies, and two unplanned medevacs.
Very proud of my team and their dedication! My role would be impossible without them and their support - thank you 💚
Never thought as a paramedic I’d be learning to climb pilot ladders in preparation of boarding ships to help a patient - absolutely loving the diversity of my role here in St Helena and the opportunities it brings 😄

The crew of the MV Helena have been assisting the

Sea Rescue Service and EMS with vessel boarding training via a pilot ladder. The SRS personnel were also shown the ship's free fall lifeboat and the on board medical facilities.
Back to St Helena after 8 weeks leave! Really glad to be back, and to get stuck into work again.
I have some prehospital cardiac arrest check lists but wondered if anyone could share with me an in-hospital list/booklet?
Trying to create some materials for our clinical team ☺️
Join our dynamic team as an Emergency Service Supervisor & Trainer in the beautiful St. Helena, overseeing critical emergency operations and coordination efforts 🇸🇭
It’s been great to work with Professor Ian Cumming here in St Helena 🇸🇭
We’ve been developing a pre-hospital strategy and ambulance service delivery plan, to ensure the success of the service continues and evolving capabilities are integrated within the wider health strategy 🚑
Moving to St Helena is difficult for partners - they give up their career to support you and have to find their ‘purpose’ again…
Dan’s business has been hugely successful and loved by the saints! Very proud and cannot wait to see what he achieves when we return from leave ☺️❤️
I visited Keele Uni as part of my MSc in global healthcare leadership. Focusing on the complexity of healthcare in resource-limited countries and how AI is being implemented. It was also great to engage with peers who are equally passionate about healthcare leadership 🌎🎓🚑
There have been no cases of community acquired covid in St Helena. On the 8th of August, mandatory travel isolation will end. As part of our preparations a series of covid vaccinations clinics have been set up. People 50+ are now receiving a 4th covid booster & flu vaccines 💉
This week we taught first aid and BLS to a group of
@Girlguiding
leaders! ⛑️
An evening well spent supporting the community and ensuring the leaders memberships remained compliant 👏🏼
Last week 12 nurses undertook the
@Qualsafe
‘Intermediate Life Support’ course, as they’re also responsible for responding to ambulance calls.
It was a great day, refreshing skills such as airway management and choking. The vest certainly made us laugh during the practice! 😄
Massive thank you to
@SteffieRidout
for donating lots of equipment to help with our ambulance development project in St Helena! The team were every happy with their stethoscopes 🩺 ❤️
