Excited to share my first postdoc manuscript! @danjbecker and I created frameworks for understanding how cross-species transmission is driven by phylogenetic relatedness between co-roosting species, and its impact on roost infection prevalence.

Cross-species transmission of pathogens can be facilitated by frequent contact among wildlife. Cross-species transmission is often driven by phylogenetic similarity between host species, but the role...

Spatial modelling with Rita Ribeiro and @JMatthiopoulos found that most vampire bat roosts in the rabies endemic Peruvian Andes remain undiscovered. This may explain the limited ability of bat population control to reduce spillover https://t.co/863qC2t5KO @CVRinfo @UofG_SBOHVM

In our quest for new vampire 🦇roosts, we travelled 300km to another department called Ica; with some intensive asking-around at different government institutions, 4 days later, we finally found a new vampire bat roost, next to the sea with many pinnipeds around🤩🌊🦭THANK U team

On #Halloween we set off to the south coast of Peru to look for real #vampires 🧛‍♀️🦇 for my PhD to understand the relationship between diet (blood from different preys) and viruses 🦠 in vampire bats. The fruit-eating bat in the photos shares the same roost with the vampires

So lucky to have the wonderful team helping me collect samples for my first field trip! We collected vampire bat samples along the Peruvian coast to understand the influence of marine vs terrestrial diet on the viral compositions of the bats 🦇🦭🐷 Thank you also to @BatsGoViral

On my way to the Falklands to collect new data from wildlife to study infectious disease. We're looking at the role that different species play in pathogen spread from an #ecology perspective. For instance, are rodents responsible for disease outbreaks affecting #seabirds?

Another #Nipah outbreak. #Bats again in the line of fire. Let's recall that we've been sharing space w/ bats for centuries. Let's find out where the interface betn bats & humans was breached and come up with solid mitigation measures. Killing or culling bats won't solve problems
