If you want to keep the best teachers, pay them like they're the best and also treat them like they are the best. Few teachers leave an environment where they feel valued, supported, appreciated, and treated like professionals.

Teacher effectiveness is not greatly improved by curriculum, new programs, or initiatives. But, when teachers are respected, valued, supported, & feel like their talents are utilized, then morale increases, job engagement soars, & students benefit too!

A position is not leadership. A title is not leadership. Power is not leadership. What is leadership are taking actions that empower people to change.

The real learning loss from the pandemic has been social and emotional skills. Such as making and maintaining friendships, participating in group projects, and regulation of emotions. Students need more unstructured play, recess, and group interaction this fall instead of less.

πŸ’―!! The thoughts of resigning have been much more frequent as of late. I dreamed of being a teacher since I can remember but the amount of disrespect and lack of pay are taking a toll on me and my family.

Interviewed a teacher who recently left the profession. Why did you resign? β€œI have a Master’s degree. I work really hard. I love teaching kids and am great at my job. I do it all for a disgracefully low salary. All of that and I’ve never felt so disrespected by so many.”

Admin, if a teacher sends a student to your office for behavior, don't send them back. No matter how great of a conversation you just had. Don't send them back. Give the teacher the break they need.
