I've been off this platform for a while, but I know it can still connect like-minded people. I am wanting to connect with schools/districts that are in the early stages (0-5 years) of implementing standards-based grading. #SBG #edutwitter

In two weeks I will be done with semester one of my Doctorate of Education in Administration and Leadership. I always said I would never try for a doctorate degree... Never say never.

I've been using @NotionHQ for a could years now and I can't recommend this tool enough. Teachers and Admin, if you need something to help stay organize you should check it out. Educators get a lot of paid features for free!

Many teachers try to remedy these situations through giving out extra credit or other methods, but wouldn't it be better if the gradebook wasn't affected by these factors? #StandardsBasedGrading turns the gradebook from earning to learning.

Student 4 sits next to Student 3 and cheats on their homework. Their parents seem to think they deserve a good grade. The challenge is left to the teacher to explain why the student doesn't deserve a good grade. Student 4 is a real student.

Student 3 is the top student in the class. The night before the test, their parents got in a big fight, which is resulting in a divorce. Should the weight of one test determine the students grade if they have already shown mastery? Student 3 is a real student.

Student 2 never turns in any homework. Their quiz and test scores prove they know the material. Student 2 is a real student.

Student 1 was sick and did not turn in HW 1 or 2 but did fairly well on the test. Shouldn't the grade for the class be closer to the test average? Student 1 is a real student.

The 0%-100% grading scale is bad. Like really bad. Let's take a look at a class example. #edutwitter #teachertwitter #standardsbasedgrading #edchat #k12 #edreform #sblchat

With #StandardsBasedGrading the focus changes from earning points to learning the content. Learning > Earning

The end of the school year can be chaotic, but it can also be a great time to reflect. Don't forget to take time to look back on success and how to improve for next year.

Will there be a day that reformed grading is just known as grading?

High expectations for students doesn't mean more students fail. It doesn't mean your lessons are harder than others. It doesn't mean rigor is higher. It means you expect all students to meet your standards and you will do everything to help/guide them.
