Over five years ago we started our social media, website and a small amount of merchandise to build awareness of the #PoliceMedic role amongst other pre-hospital responders and our colleagues, and therefore improve interoperability and deliver joined-up casualty care.

This is tragic. Undoubtedly, there will learning. I only hope that organisations, and their people, truly learn. https://t.co/F9bFM6GD0c

Whilst many police services have issued updated guidance on CPR, mine for one has only stated compression only where you suspect COVID. No guidance around listening / feeling for breath.

If someone collapses and stops breathing normally, do something. The risk of virus transmission is small - but a person in cardiac arrest will die if you do nothing. Here’s advice for doing CPR in public in a time of COVID-19: https://t.co/92ocWK8N7I #COVID19UK

I’m not one to swear on Twitter but the profanity aside, the sentiment is spot on.

One point to share with Police colleagues; when there’s someone injured & the ambulance arrives, the priority really isn’t blocking them from driving into your scene or standing right by their door to get their call sign for your log. There are more important things going on.

First full set of 2020 shifts complete; hopefully not an indication of what’s in store for the year ahead, yet strangely ‘enjoyably’ busy!

And here we have my next point that’s bound to cause just as much controversy..... do chest seals have any benefit over leaving the wound open?
@AZRucks

@MedicCop I will say that there is evidence now that chest seals should be left off the injury since we are potentially creating a tension pneumothorax when we cover the hole but that is a whole different conversation.

So much focus on tourniquets in certain area of policing, yes they’re necessary, but are they the answer to everything that some see them to be?

@emedtox @NoobieMatt @FisherAD1 Also the data seems to be saying on civilian side, at least at mass casualty, very few are dying from lack of TQ. Need better data from non MCIs but maybe spending millions so everyone is within a few feet of a TQ isn’t money well spent
