My thanks to @MT_Anderson for providing this Planet Labs imagery and allowing me to publish it with comments. As is readily apparent, the RS-28 Sarmat test was a complete failure. The missile detonated in the silo leaving a massive crater and destroying the test site. The

Data points still coming in for the launch site and I'm beginning to think this is an ongoing fire started by the launch activities. NOAA-20 and the SUOMI NPP satellites have two detections as they cross the area in their orbits. No way to tell from this data alone if the fire

There are only enough receivers around Niigata to calculate an MLAT track for Cobra Ball. Still on station looking for that missile.

Why do we continue to think carriers are survivable assets in the near future? They're great in non-peer engagements, let me revise, they're great if not fighting China, but that's supposedly who they are planning for. We can't fund a proper Navy at this point.

Day three. Another early morning launch for Cobra Ball as it heads to the Sea of Japan, still on the hunt for that missile. Today, they're flying as Swift-89. 61-2662 #AE01D8.

Second day in a row, Cobra Ball is on patrol looking for a North Korean missile launch. KC-135T 58-0050 has refueled them over the Sea of Japan enabling a long orbit time. Having been refueled yesterday, 662 flew an almost 13 hours mission. I expect a similar profile today

Nine hours into a mission to monitor a potential North Korean Ballistic Missile launch, Cobra Ball 61-2662 continues to fly an elusive orbit in the Sea of Japan. Tracking is certainly intermittent. @ryankakiuchan

KC-135T 60-0342 arriving back at Okinawa after refueling Cobra Ball 61-2662 over the Sea of Japan. 662 is flying as Patty-28 tonight, but isn't being tracked much. The Ball mission was a favorite of mine. A backgrounder by Robert Hopkins.

KC-46A 22-46104 delivering today from Boeing to Travis AFB as Wyvrn-01 (I don't recall Wyvern being used before, that would be a good one to have stick). The ICAO used was previously assigned to a T-38. @flightradar24 hasn't updated their database yet. #AE63D4

Rivet Joint 62-4125 as Hoover-25 is RTB to Offut and wrapping up a monthlong deployment to Elmendorf AFB. They flew often, but practiced pretty good Opsec and flew untracked, or just around Elmendorf itself. It's unclear how many were operational versus exercise related.

Rivet Joint 64-14844 out for a second training flight this evening as Topcat-84. It flew earlier today as Topcat-44. Typically they reverse their callsign on the second flight. Buuut, that's a bit problematic for -844.
