Our new paper shows fisheries data are usually too noisy to resolve model uncertainty. Thus, typical sustainability targets (e.g. maintaining 60% of carrying capacity) might be too aggressive, w V Cattoni @LeahFSouth @DavidJWarne @cboettig @SMB_MathBiology

Our new paper: If you get a bit more $ should you expand a protected area or improve management? Past work suggests management is more cost effective but we show when threats are concentrated near edges expanding may be optimal https://t.co/p91RpFQxuM

Shamelessly stealing a figure by postdoc fellow Kevin Archibald today because I want to shout out his very cool new paper in JTB. Kevinβs work shows a tradeoff between speed of acclimation and maximal growth in mixotrophs. Read more at: https://t.co/NmknNkLx6a

You can lose the US presidential election with 78% of the popular vote (at least theoretically). The electoral college system is so strange.

I donβt enjoy politics much, but math and numbers are fun. I wanted to calculate the theoretical maximum popular vote count for a US presidential candidate who still loses the election. Letβ¦

Only briefly read the methods but it based on correlations between WNS and the response. The correlations do include the effect of before and after becoming WNS infected, so that would make the evidence a bit stronger than a typical study which is a single snapshot.
