After two decades @Ecography, I’m signing off. We grew the journal’s scope, navigated a smooth shift to OA, and kept community at the centre. Grateful to authors, reviewers and colleagues. Warmest wishes to my successor, C Meynard.

You might argue about what causes climate change but DoD must address the effects and implications. Naval bases being flooded, population movements. And why more concern now about Greenland? Arctic changing. https://t.co/bZJjDKWHIZ via @usatoday

There wouldn’t be a scramble for Greenland if the Arctic weren’t melting. And yet it’s Trump—who denies climate change and bans the term from official documents—who’s now picking fights with historical allies in a bid to claim a chunk of ice he doesn’t even believe is melting.

Wealth in the US is largely the product of a virtuous combination of good science and a good environment for innovation and business. If you start creating a hostile environment for science and scientists, the US economy will crumble like a house of cards.

It happened in the US—not Russia or China. A 🇫🇷 scholar who came to the US to attend a conference was turned back at the border because he had expressed a critical personal opinion on Trump's research policy. Laptop & phone seized. Right outrage. #freedom https://t.co/mtiGzCEfDT

So much for a “meritocracy.” Last night at the Pentagon, President Trump and Secretary Hegseth dismantled a core principle of American democracy: the apolitical military. Let me explain what’s going on and why it is deeply dangerous for our country: 🧵

Ronald Reagan warned against “demagogues” like Trump: “We should beware of the demagogues who are willing to declare a Trade war against our friends, weakening our economy, our national security, and the entire free world, all while cynically waving the American flag…”

We have to simply come to grips with the real universe that we really live in and if some of our myth and some of our religion is inconsistent with it, it's time to change the myth and the religion.

Are threatened species important for glueing interaction networks together? The most important interactions in the network are, at least, partially at risk. Threatened and non-threatened species make unique contributions to the ecological network. https://t.co/GJiO8KCztL
