Of the many artist tributes out there, I think about this Akira piece by Alex Toth often. Otomo feels like someone who is the exact antithesis of Toths philosophy; pure hyper-maximimalism over stripped-down gestural brevity. I can't help but wonder what Toth thought of Akira

This is how anime is used to be made. Grueling. Tedious. Monotonous. Exhausting. Now you can just click a button... https://t.co/fWScCdRIbC

HOOK JAW (1976): Controversial kids' comic Action's main event, a vengeful great white with a dirty great gaff hook lodged in its gob. Initially written and drawn by Pat Mills and Ramon Sola, this was an insanely, deliriously violent strip, with arms, legs, and heads popping off.

As best as I can tell, Le Petit Prince made his French TV debut on January 23, 1966, so happy 60th anniversary! A truly spectacular wrestler for his time whose work still looks impressive through 2026 eyes. Here's one minute of him being great. All footage is from 1966-1971.

When Harvey Korman and Paul Lynde played twins on The Carol Burnett Show, Korman hadn't rehearsed the voice until the taping. Lynde's look to him at the end was genuine annoyance 😂

HICKEY & BOGGS (1972) - only film directed by Robert Culp - gritty, realistic, bleak L.A. neo-noir - first interracial buddy (ex)cop duo - first produced Walter Hill screenplay - brutal and anti-mythic ending - gorgeous visuals by DP Bill Butler 🎥My favorite shots and credits:

This guy is doing the lord’s work.
Wrestling history is a tapestry and every match has a story to tell. This one, a bout you've likely never heard of, loomed larger than most. Masakatsu Funaki. Minoru Suzuki. Promises not kept and the road to Pancrase. The Invisible Wall. https://t.co/6t6YJCt6Wt

Dark Journey blinds Jake Roberts with ink - then he accidentally ddts her to the crowd’s delight. Been re-watching so much Mid South the last several weeks & it’s a real treat. Great wrestling, great angles & animated/lively crowds.
