“Keepin’ It a Bean” is a podcast that brings together authentic storytelling, intentional dialogue, and social justice in order to build community over a cup of coffee or tea.
"We can disagree and still love each other unless your disagreement is rooted in my oppression and denial of my humanity and right to exist."
— James Baldwin
Nigga… I know that the depths of this shit is actually wild and gruesome. But I definitely did not think about the role that firefighters played into this shit.
Sha'Carri is going through the same cycle of any visible Black woman on Twitter. Hype her up. She tweets or leans into the hype. Twitter "humbles" her. It's always wild to see a quick switch up.
Gilbert Arenas shares his theory with Shannon Sharpe and Ochocinco on why he believes Amanda Seales is single at 42 years old, and explains why her educational background can be viewed as flaws by some men.

This plan will save Black and brown people money... and give more opportunity. Not as many people would have to struggle with babysitters or daycare while they work.
I will say… I feel like Ciara gets misplaced anger, because she was able to move on from Future. There’s this weird expectation for Black women to settle out of obligation, but she had the resources to not have to do that. & that tugs at niggas insecurity of feeling disposable.
I love when artists get to talk about their music and how they construct their songs. This is art. I want more of this. Legit made me want to go listen to Billie Eyelash’s music even more.
Regina King is Shirley Chisholm. SHIRLEY, the iconic story of the first Black congresswoman and her historic presidential campaign, premieres March 22, only on Netflix.
Yall… Coco Jones performed at the Soul Train Awards last week, had a Teen Vogue piece, an Xmas song, dropped a video with Renee Rapp, on tour, did a Mariah Carey tribute at the Grio Awards, and went to the Renaissance Premiere last night.
Our good sis has been WORKING.
Quinta Brunson and some of the other cast & producers of ‘ABBOTT ELEMENTARY’ have launched a strike fund to provide support to the show’s production crew until studios finally pay actors & writers fairly.

Black excellence isn’t about getting to billionaire status. Black excellence is the impact you leave in this world. Knowing that you made it easier for the next generation to exist. The most excellent aren’t always the most visible.
Megan Thee Stallion 🤝🏾

Meg was able to utilize art to such a high degree. The use of Rock music is historically rebellious and feels the same here, the shedding of skin, paparazzi, and her lyricism is immaculate.

We already do that amount of time between K-12 with four years of college. This plan just makes community college free for two years. So we’re saving money.
There’s something about the way people to react uncomfortably to seeing young, Black women step into their womanhood that is wild to witness. Zendaya is going through it. Chloe is going through it. Let them live.
I will say… I don’t like Shannon Sharpe as an interviewer. Katt Williams is saying some profound shit that I would love Shannon to lean into, challenge, let a moment breathe or get Katt to expand on.
… but he just moves onto the next question. It’s leaving me peeved.
Revolutionary Fred Hampton was assassinated on this day at the age of 21. He is someone that inspired an entire generation to fight for their own freedom. Make sure to learn about this man today and his legacy.
Amanda Seales was being fair about her experience with Issa. It doesn’t mean that it’s suddenly anti-Issa. It just means that Issa is human and has some lessons to learn in business.
I recently had a conversation on how dark-skinned Black men with heavy Black features only become the "it" guy when they meet the physical appearance that we expect out of them.
Yahya, Jonathan Majors, and Sterling K. Brown are quick examples.
I’m noticing that people have been automatically assuming that learning about LGBTQ History assumes that students are learning how to be gay or that the LGBTQ didn’t exist until 2019. Welp... nope. You sound dumb.
Enough is enough.
For the last few decades, you have silently assassinated people, destroyed others’ reputation and their legacies.
These individuals deserve justice and a payday on top of that.
Let’s be absolutely clear: you absolutely did that shit.
I say this a lot... as Black men, we need to redefine our relationship to money, power, and sexual domination. I do hope that we start to understand that we can love Black women and femmes outside of desirability.
Let Ciara do a Super Bowl… it’ll be one of the most entertaining ones that we would ever see. Bring out Missy and Luda, then we’re in for a visual feast, choreography, nostalgia, and an homage to Janet Jackson… it’ll shut shit down.
Dawn Richard gave us some great electro pop, house music, and R&B with “Second Line.” So let’s get her back into this musical conversation, because she’s ahead of y’all.
It was cool to see

you definitely gotta check them out. They adore your work and are inspired by you.

Exciting news! I’m finally making my journey to higher ed and college access!
I’ll be the new Assistant Director of Upward Bound’s Math & Sciences.
I get to continue to make STEM programs and careers accessible to Black, brown, and first gen students.
I am such a fan of Ron Cephas Jones’ work. He was one of the most compelling and moving actors that I got to witness. His role as William Hill in “This Is Us” was one of the best roles ever to exist on television and has impacted me in so many ways.
Rest easy. 💐🤎
@mazemusic_
lol she just tweeted. I do not think it's that deep. She should be able to talk her shit. It's a competitive sport. Everyone seems to want to remind her of her place and that's weird.
This is the first show that doesn’t feel like it’s supposed to Blacksplain anything, write for millennials/Gen Z, or pander to wypipo to understand. This show is definitely meant for us, which I throughly enjoy. It feels like a real family.
#TheUpshaws
Rihanna has a charisma and swag that cannot be replicated.
I look back on this performance and my respect for it heightened. Rihanna had multiple MOMENTS in this performance that make it so memorable to me. Lights, choreo, direction, and staging take this to a new level!
@KimberlyNFoster
I skipped through it. There was no reason for that scene to drag… viewers gained nothing. It added nothing to the story. I was so mad. 💀
I have this theory that the three acts are being released backwards.
RENAISSANCE is the conclusion on the visuals. COWBOY CARTER is the middle. act iii is the beginning of the visuals.
Rock is the chaos.
Country is the order.
Dance is the freedom.
I feel like he has this skewed idea of who Coretta Scott King was for Martin… like… she was the brains behind so many operations, but understood that a man being the face was necessary for the movement at the time.
Idk. Something about his phrasing feels… sexist. 😭
#RapShit
had a proper commentary on coming up as women in the music industry. It had timely critique. The characters were being fleshed out. Thematically it was so strong and nuanced. I am so irritated with these networks not allowing a show to grow. It hit its stride at S2E5.
There’s a through line with Keith Lee and Katt Williams practicing the public display of radical honesty in our community.
Niggas have been desperately trying to protect the image of Black excellence at the detriment of our own community, so these two men are refreshing.
Interesting… I’m just now seeing these quotes and these responses to this specific video. I listened to this and heard him calling out a system.
I’ll process further, but my knee jerk reaction is that he advocating for even more types of Black stories to be told.
I disagree with this take. I believe that Insecure had visual storytelling, excellent music choices to push a narrative, beautiful cinematography, and great writing. When topics deeply resonate with a large group of people, then I hope we don’t just reduce to Twitter talk.
Insecure was entertaining. But it was mediocre. I don’t think the show really needed to have superior writing. It was written in a “be the TL topic way” & Abbott is not. Many of those shows intentionally induced the “Scandal Effect “
This take is tired. Creativity does not happen in isolation. These immaculate songs get to be interpreted, this is what can make an album amazing, and Beyoncé has a talent for curating artists new and old. It’s why she stays current. It’s why her sound evolved. She is one of one.
Yeahhhhhh. Beyoncé got the kids, their parents, and grandparents. I came home from work and they were blasting “Break My Soul” and got the whole block singing that song. It’s actually dope to see the joy that this song brings to Black folx. Music can be so powerful.
#COWBOYCARTER
is theatre of the mind. This whole album is cinematic, tells a story, it’s a sonic journey, and allows our imagination to drift. That is an awesome considering we don’t have visuals.
I love how Rihanna has settled into celebrity. She feels relatable, easy going, and tapped in. She doesn’t feel unattainable despite how huge she actually is in the industry.
I believe that The Grapevine shaped a generation of thinkers, how to engage in discourse, and ensuring that all perspectives were heard. They impacted how I engage in so many discussions.
I was so honored to be on a few panels and bring in my perspective.

It took Candace, another Black woman, to ask Van the right question about what she was doing. I loved that she didn’t run when Van began throwing everything. She recognized the anger, but knew it was sadness underneath. The only character to confront Van with love.

High key… I’m even further convinced that “J. Christ” was his statement piece of him leaving behind the previous era. Cuz the video parallels “Montero” but in a reverse kind of way.
I like this sound on him a lot. I’m even more invested in this new era and sound.
Beyoncé finna cuss her dad out again and reassure Chloe of her talent. And I feel like he took the question wrong. Performance and inspiration wise, we can definitely see that Chloe takes notes and is developing her artistry.
Matthew be irking me. 😂
