He’s kept us waiting for the last few days but Luke Andrew Francis Griffin has finally arrived. Steph and Luke both doing great and can’t wait to introduce him to Eva and Rosa

No family could’ve afforded the millions of pounds this little miracle’s care cost. We’re so thankful and lucky to have the NHS free at the point of need.
#HappyBirthdayNHS
I’m delighted to have won the trust of members in Central Scotland. Thank you for giving me the highest number of votes.
I’m looking forward to campaigning with all constituency and regional candidates as we approach this huge election.
Humza Yousaf cuts £196M from the housing budget, pledges to give back £80M over two years. That’s not the sort of arithmetic that will win a vote of confidence 🧮
#HousingEmergency
Absolutely delighted with the announcement that there will be a £1.5M fund to support families with a premature baby in hospital. Rosa is already a miracle but it’s amazing that because of her thousands of
#preemie
families will benefit.
The fantastic team
@wishawneonatal
saved my daughter’s life.
The SNP government need to reverse their decision to downgrade the unit so they can keep saving lives
Lots of people switching back to
@ScottishLabour
in Rutherglen and Hamilton. Real desire for change; a by-election and general election can’t come quick enough
Not a political statement.
@SGriffin28
and I are just a working family, like lots of others, who sometimes need to take our kids to work. Just happens to be
@ScotParl
Another thing Rosa takes in her stride anyway 💪🏻

The pandemic - and years of SNP cuts - have left our green spaces, streets and town centres in a terrible state. At this budget,
@ScottishLabour
is calling for investment to clean our streets, re-open facilities and get our communities on their feet again.
High streets have been ruined by years of neglect after the SNP cut environmental health and waste management budgets by £80 million, say Labour.
It is calling for a £100m ‘clean up fund’ in Thursday’s Budget.
Civil servants out the loop
Councils ignored
Newly signed agreement between local and national government in the bin
A desperate attempt to turn around public opinion which will close more desperately needed local services
🚨EXC: Leak reveals Humza Yousaf has 'regret' about his council tax freeze announcement. Also:
- civil servants were 'unsighted' on the policy and have concerns.
- Yousaf admits it is a 'set back' for relations with councils.
Good coverage today of my FOI request showing 50,000 low income households are missing out on council tax support. The Scottish Government need to do more to publicise their scheme to protect low income families and pensioners.
Might be
@JeaneF1MSP
if it was true. You didn’t commit to a legal ban in April 17, you told me repeatedly it was unworkable and unnecessary. Glad you’ve changed your mind though.
It’s the first weekend of the Scottish Parliament election campaign and we’ve spoken to hundreds of people about
@ScottishLabour
’s National Recovery Plan.

#BothVotesLabour
The Scottish Government have denied the existence of a
#housingemergency
in Scotland. It’s a complete failure of government to accept that thousands and thousands of people don’t have a place to call home
The Scottish Government are in denial. Tonight ministers have told the people of Scotland that the
#housingemergency
doesn't exist, while communities across the country have to deal with its consequences every day.
I have fought alongside
@LongCovidScot
to have the condition recognised as an industrial workplace injury. Delighted to support them today to demand action from a government who are simply not listening to their concerns
#LongCovidAD24
Huge congratulations to our newest
@ScottishLabour
Cllr, Anne McCrory. Fantastic campaign run by
@FJMcNally
,
@LabourCallum
and local activists - achieving an amazing 52% vote share. Now on to East Kilbride West and Rutherglen & Hamilton West to work for two more
#labourgains
A ban on the private sector delivering disability assessments is now a legal reality – after months of Labour pressure I have led at Holyrood, the SNP conceded a ban is right and necessary
On the day the
@scotgov
launch their
#HousingBill
they are told their affordable housing plans are ‘all but over’ and that social housing is ‘worst since Thatcher’. Isn’t it time they accepted we have a
#HousingEmergency
in Scotland?
While the SNP and Tories may have succeeded in defeating my Bill today, the fight goes on to have the voices of workers at the heart of a new industrial injuries system in Scotland.
@scottishlabour
won’t turn our back on workers
#OurWorkplaces
This is a truly shocking case. 3-year old Cody suffers badly from tonsillitis. It blocks 75% of his airway and he can barely eat or drink. Despite urgent referrals, Cody must wait 3 years for critical treatment. The
@scotgov
must act to bring down children’s waiting lists now.
Heading to Parliament this morning thankful for the women who, 100 years ago, gave everything to ensure these two will have the right to vote. Lots still to do to make sure my daughters have the same opportunities as your sons
#Vote100
#Suffrage
I welcome the
@ScottishTUC
support for my Bill to establish an industrial injuries system in Scotland fit for the 21st century. Scottish workers, like those suffering from long covid, must no longer be ignored by

Campaigning across Lanarkshire today for 3 great
@scottishlabour
candidates who can win and make the difference between a Labour and Tory government
#VoteLabour12December
We met parents from Paisley in Wishaw Hospital when Rosa was born because RAH was already full - there clearly is a need for the ward. Guess families in the west of Scotland will be spending even more time travelling all over the country
Gutted by the SNP's decision to close RAH Kids Ward and devastated for the staff & thousands of local families who Nicola Sturgeon lied to and ignored. The people of Renfrewshire can never trust a word she and the SNP say again.
SNP just voted to continue with one of George Osborne’s first cuts to social security. Oh dear!!! Labour clearly have more ambition for carers than just to pass on Tory austerity.
Astonishing in the week the
@scotgov
launch their Housing Bill, their housebuilding policy is described as being ‘all but over’. It is time they recognised the
#HousingEmergency
in Scotland, instead of putting sticking plasters over the issue.
I hope all parties in the chamber will back my amendment to the social security bill on split payments today. This could be crucial in getting support to kids and preventing domestic abuse.
Shockingly, almost 50% of higher students in N Lanarkshire had grades downgraded by a process, signed off by govt, which discriminates against working class pupils. Thread below which show it’s even worse if on free school meals, receive a clothing grant or are care experienced
North Lanarkshire Council data has confirmed that 2,900 or 46% of our Higher pupils have had their grades reduced due to the SQA’s appalling methodology; 4,951 (42.5%) of individual Higher grades have reduced. This is totally unacceptable. Young people require urgent action now.
Now more than ever, our country needs political leadership that will bring people together.
I want to rebuild Scottish Labour, and then rebuild Scotland.
That work starts now.
Good to see that a new offer has been made to hopefully avert strikes and give workers the pay rise they deserve.
ScotGov should’ve intervened in May, when asked by councils and workers, instead of being shamed into action by mounting rubbish and looming school closures
Almost 1/2 of students in N Lanarkshire had their results reduced, in process signed off by govt, because of where they live.
John Swinney has been given time to fix this but his solution is an appeal that could take until May 2021. MSPs should support a motion of no confidence
I have lodged a proposed Members’ Bill today
@ScotParl
aimed at modernising disability and industrial injuries benefit and support. You can respond to the consultation here:
This is a blog post I wrote for
@Blisscharity
about Rosa’s time in hospital. Can’t believe the new fund will be available to
#preemie
families on her 1st birthday!
Campaigning across North Lanarkshire today with
@FJMcNally
, it’s clear people want a
#GENow
.
#VoteScotLab24
to get rid of this rotten Tory Government.
I was proud to work with Bliss to see this fund delivered on my daughter’s first birthday.
No family should be worried about money when they are caring for a premature baby in hospital and I hope the UK Government roll out the Scottish scheme across the country.
We're delighted with the additions to the Scottish Neonatal Expense Fund which come into force today, you can read more about it: . We will be campaigning for similar support to be introduced in England, Wales and Northern Ireland as this support is vital.
Scandalous that almost half of the higher students in North Lanarkshire have been subjected to a reduction in grades based on postcode rather than their individual ability. This is naked class discrimination. Anyone affected can contact me at mark.griffin.msp

Front page on the need to support firefighters with cancer through the newly devolved employment injuries benefit. Firefighters deserve a seat at the table in the design of the new system alongside other workers injured or ill because of the work they do
A stark message from
@shelterscotland
for the new First Minister today. Scotland is in a
#HousingEmergency
and we need action now. Tired old policies from a tired old government simply won’t work.
£18billon worth of empty or abandoned properties in Scotland - 93,000 homes, while nearly 10,000 children are forced to live in temporary accommodation. Yet the Scottish Government believes this is not a housing emergency. Shameful.
I’m hoping I haven’t missed a reply to any of the hundreds of e-mails I’ve received! If I have then sorry, I agree completely that the Offensive Behaviour at Football and Threatening Communications Act should be scrapped
@FACKilltheBill
Just voted for legislation to end period poverty in Scotland in a historic vote.
Congratulations
@MonicaLennon7
for all your hard work taking the bill through
@ScotParl
West Dunbartonshire joins Glasgow, Edinburgh, Fife and Argyll and Bute in declaring a
#HousingEmergency
. An opportunity for new FM, John Swinney, to do the same and put in place a clear plan to build more homes.
Today the SNP Government recognised its own failure by declaring a
#HousingEmergency
after not doing so just 6 months ago. I proposed solutions to the crisis, and now Government must turn them into action.
Scotgov have known about this for years. The failure to address these issues means those who need support from a modernised employment injuries support scheme are let down.
Govt should back my bill and let an advisory council of workers, trade unionists and experts get to work
🚨 EXC: Ex-footballers with dementia suffer blow in campaign for benefits payments.
Full devolution of industrial injuries benefit was delayed until 2026 and now the Cab Sec says there are 150,000 paper files in a "warehouse".
Scotland is in the grips of a
#housingemergency
and thousands of children are stuck in temporary accommodation – while the SNP-Green government has gutted council budgets and brought forward a housing bill that won’t give us a single extra home.
Welcome intervention from
the STUC. Workers, especially keyworkers with long covid, can’t wait any longer for the Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit replacement. We need a Scottish Advisory Council, with workers voices, to help design the new benefit
Declaring a
#HousingEmergency
in Scotland is only the first step. The 10,000 children in temporary accommodation now need the SNP Government to get on with the job of working across parties, and with organisations like
@shelterscotland
and
@sfha_hq
, to address it.
Do you know how many North Lanarkshire new-build school buildings the Scottish Government has funded in nearly 10 years? One. I raised that shameful reality in the Parliament today.
Does that include long covid sufferers, firefighters with cancer, teachers with asbestos-related illness, or ex-footballers with dementia? If it does, then I expect
@HumzaYousaf
will support my bill to create a fairer industrial injuries system in Scotland
#OurWorplaces
#STUC24
I’ve received hundreds of e-mails from people opposed to the Offensive Behaviour at Football and Threatening Communications Act and will be voting tomorrow to

Delighted to receive my

certificate from
@simonghodgson
. I'm proud to recognise the work that carers do in a positive and supportive working environment. More employers need to do the same - and say when they do!

Organ donation is an amazing gift of life. 90% of people support it but only 52% have signed up to the donor register.
Proud to speak about my dad’s story in Parliament yesterday to support a change in the law around donation which should save lives.
The Scottish Government are in complete denial about the scale of the
#housingemergency
in Scotland. As
@shelterscotland
have done, I am calling on the
@ScotGovFM
to make an urgent statement in Parliament.
The SNP and the Greens need to admit there is a
#housingemergency
and take urgent action to address it. 10,000 children in temporary accommodation is not a price worth paying for government failure.
Great to be back on the
#labourdoorstep
with everyone again so soon! Working hard with
@shottsman7
in Shotts and Caldercruix today.
Come and join us on the campaign before polling day this Thursday 🌹
Disappointed that the SNP have voted with the Tories to continue George Osborne’s social security cuts. SNP and Tories vote for continued austerity again. Carers would be better off under Labour’s proposal to increase Carers Allowance at a higher rate.
Disappointed that Scottish Labour have voted against increasing Carer’s Allowance.
@scotgov
giving an extra £452.40 a year to carers compared to those outwith Scotland.
People won’t forgive Nicola Sturgeon if she blocks a Labour government, £70Bn of investment and lets the Tories back into government. Every vote for the SNP is now a vote for Boris Johnson as Prime Minister
NEW:
@NicolaSturgeon
tells
@BBCNews
that if Jeremy Corbyn won’t allow
#indyref2
on her timescale (ie next year): “I won’t help him in power, to get into power, to stay in power”
📣 Together we can build a fairer, stronger Scotland.
On 6 May I'm using both votes to back
@AnasSarwar
for a national recovery. 🌹
Have you made your polling day plan?

I moved amendments yesterday to the social security bill, supported by
@elainesmithmsp
&
@AlisonJohnstone
, to increase child benefit by £5 a week and lift 30,000 children out of poverty. Sad to say they were voted down by a Tory/SNP coalition
Teachers, support staff and pupils have no support through the social security system if they are exposed to asbestos due to outdated rules on industrial illness and injury. A new advisory council is needed make the system fit for purpose
Great to see Fife Council join Glasgow, Edinburgh and Argyll and Bute, in declaring a
#HousingEmergency
. Time for the Scottish Government to do the same. Nearly 10,000 children in temporary accommodation is not a price worth paying.

Covid-19 should be classed as an industrial disease. Research shows that healthcare workers are 3 times more likely to catch covid-19 and end up in hospital.
We should be supporting them through their illness and recovery with social security payments

The Scottish Government is asleep at the wheel when it comes to this, and so many other issues. The time for action on replacing Grenfell-style Cladding is long overdue.
