This cannot go on. I refuse to continue sacrificing my own wellbeing to prop up a broken CJS. Our goodwill has run out. Pay us properly and respect the vital work we do. That is not an irresponsible demand. #barristerstrike #actionforjustice

That doesn't include taking notes, drafting advices, conferences, legal research or even just time to *think* about the evidence. Purely just reading time. The crown accepted a plea to Manslaughter so it is classed as a "cracked trial" and the fee is £2575. For 250 hours.

Under AGFS the PPE threshold for Murder is 10,000 pages (@TheCriminalBar why???). My case including some electronic evidence came in at just under that threshold. With a conservative estimate of just 90 seconds per page, that is around 250 hours of work just to read the papers.

Does £10.30 an hour on a murder case seem reasonable to you @MoJGovUK @DominicRaab @Dines4Dales? Or does that sound "irresponsible"?That is what I will be paid for defending a vulnerable teenager charged with the most serious of criminal offences. (Thread 1/4)

A warm welcome to all the athletes coming to Birmingham for the Commonwealth Games. Let me recommend a luxury spa where you can relax and unwind after your training - it’s on the Smallbrook Queensway and it’s called Snobs. #B2022

Every time I look at a photo of barristers attending a day of action demo outside a court, I always see faces I know, even off my usual circuit. We are a small band, and a united one. A point @MoJGovUK seem to miss.

I may be able to help with some terminology here. If you are a white person whose first response to Alex’s account (and the countless similar reports from other BAME practitioners) is to deny her experience, you’re not a “sceptic” or a “truth-seeker” - you’re a racist.

I was told "very loudly to get out of the courtroom" Black barrister Alexandra Wilson says court staff mistook her for a defendant three times in one day https://t.co/PxkyecgYDB

What a brilliant photo. Beautiful setting, the finger wag, the social distancing, Johnson’s face... I think it’s just the visual reminder that we live in a democracy

A list of people now unable to do jury service: - those with existing health conditions - pregnant women - the over 70's - key workers - parents of school children Soon to be joined no doubt by anyone (left) that requires public transport to get to court. But trials continue...

Much of jury service involves sitting around the jury waiting area with jurors for all the trials in the building. Trial length not the only issue! @HMCTSgovuk @MoJGovUK BBC News - Coronavirus: No jury trials longer than three days in England and Wales https://t.co/zVmGMsMYIm

Spent the entire day waiting around Stafford Crown Court only to be adjourned off for lack of court time. Now racing across the Midlands with the slim hope of seeing the toddler before bedtime 😔 On a positive though I bought a packet of wine gums and over half were red! 😋
