It finally happened!! My first paper of my PhD is out in @NatureComms ๐ฅณ showing how the Antarctic ice sheet - and especially parts of E. Ant. - could experience mass loss due to basal thawingโฆ check it out here!! https://t.co/tQuGGVeB38

Interesting #ISSM model - data comparison from @KeepingIceCool showing how key parts of East #Antarctica bed could be vulnerable to thawing and acceleration of ice loss. Looking forward to reading the accepted Nature Comms paper. #cryosphere2022

- our novel 3D thermo-mechanical model captures the emergence of ice stream shear margins, and predicts their evolution along the stream. 3/3

Our key results are that - ice streams may form spontaneously out of a novel instability related to subtemperate sliding; - if that does not happen, then a hydraulic instability may occur where the bed is fully temperate, and still form ice streams; 2/3
