Maneki Social is a one-woman marketing agency 💅 I started this business on February 28, 2023. It's built from the ground up to support indie devs. Because I believe every one of you can succeed.

Game devs, what I’m about to tell you is so simple, but it can completely change how people engage with your content. If you're struggling to get more views on your gameplay videos or content, read this. It's not an algorithm hack, but it will help you make better content. 🧵

Does anyone else struggle with creating content for social media? Marketing has to be the hardest part of game development. Always have to come up with new and engaging ideas. So, we did something! We built a content system that helps us to create content in bulk!

The indie space is so unbelievably freaking cool. There’s just this camaraderie within this community/space that is unmatched anywhere else. A rising tide lifts all boats.

And listening to the advice from @ManekiSocial this method started to connect me with some streamers that have expressed interest in the game. Cool! So I kept doing that work because keeping the circle indiedev only isn't what we should strive for.

@ManekiSocial "I don't need players, I make it for myself" is probably worse.

The worst thing you can tell yourself as an indie game developer is: "If I build it, they will come."

Lesson #5: Rewrite Your Elevator Pitch. This trend worked because it simplified game concepts. Reflect on the crucial details of your game. Write a page about them. Then shorten to 1 paragraph. Now sum up in 1 sentence. Edit, rinse, repeat.

Lesson #4: Don't Look Like A Knock-Off. Warning: Don't over-compare your game. Gamers do that enough already. It's fine to say "Hollow Knight inspired me" or "playing Dark Souls made me want to make my own game". But if you over-compare, your game seems to have nothing to offer.

Lesson #3: Be Visual + Eye-Catching. This trend grabbed viewers by using visuals they would recognize! Your audience scrolls quickly. Use visuals to emphasize your message. It holds their attention for longer than simple text.
