Compassion, welcome and solidarity, brought straight to the door of the Home Secretary! ✊ The message is clear: these cruel plans do not represent us. Communities up and down this country stand for #CompassionNotCruelty. It's not too late to change course.

The Home Secretary's ruthless new plans are out of step with everything we stand for in Manchester. Every day, we see Mancunians open their homes, volunteer their time and show solidarity with people seeking safety. 🧡✊ Proud to sign this letter to say: NOT IN OUR NAME 👇
📢 Today over 200 community organisations have joined together to say the Government’s new asylum plans do not represent them, their communities or who we are as a country Want to join us? Write to your MP TODAY https://t.co/0kM8GK79AT

Refugee women face unique challenges at the intersection of disability and displacement. An issue that is often invisible in vital conversations. That's why, to mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, Jane shared her experience 👇 https://t.co/6eooNvwv5C 1/🧵

We're proud to partner with the wider sector in challenging this madness. Volunteering must remain VOLUNTARY. Read about our open letter to the Home Secretary 👉 https://t.co/ySzdbcyeZ3

Making volunteering compulsory for refugees slammed as exploitative, bureaucratic and un-British
Mandatory volunteering? This policy is a paradox. Forcing people to volunteer would: ❌ Undermine everything that makes volunteering so valuable ❌ Harm survivors of trafficking & modern slavery ❌ Discriminate against those who can't volunteer

Excellent statement from @ManchesterCoS on how the Home Secretary is disgracefully punishing the most vulnerable in our society:
Refugee status isn’t a ‘golden ticket’, nor is it time sensitive. It is a human right. Today, the Home Secretary will roll out drastic changes to refugee protections. Here is our reaction.

At least 133 people died whilst trying to seek safety in the UK last year - the deadliest year on record. Yet the Government doesn’t officially count these deaths. Each death is a tragedy. These fatalities must not be ignored. The law must change so we can #KnowTheirNames.

Honoured to play a role in ensuring Manchester and Sanctuary are forever interlinked. A history that goes right back to Viraj Mendis at Ascension Church, Hulme. (Would recommend reading up on this chapter of Manchester’s history if you’re unfamiliar! ✊)
An appreciation post on #TrusteesWeek! 🧡 We're super grateful for the work our trustees do to guide MCoS' strategic vision; ensuring we embed sanctuary in every last corner of the city. Futureproofing our movement of welcome, one meeting at a time. 📈

What better way to mark the end of #BlackHistoryMonth than to commemorate one of the finest chapters in our city's history - #PanAfricanCongress. We honour not only the delegates' decolonial, anti-racist vision, but also the role of Mancunians in making the Congress happen.

Report findings: ❌ Inadequate accommodation ❌ Children in the adult system ❌ Safeguarding failures ❌ Lack of community engagement ❌ Lack of strategy ❌ Billions squandered ❌ Insufficient oversight ❌ Failed due diligence - esp on large sites https://t.co/65mddiV0z0

Flawed contract design and incompetent delivery left the Home Office unable to cope with the surge in demand for asylum accommodation, a report by the Home Affairs Committee has found.
