NatWest's chair tells @amolrajan that he does not believe it is "that difficult" for people to get on the UK housing ladder. "You have to save, and that's the way it always used to be," Sir Howard Davies tells @BBCr4today

81% of social tenants are white, 92% are UK nationals. The overwhelming majority of immigrant households rent privately. Social housing is built with initial grant, but its day-to-day running costs are covered by rent. Calling it 'subsidised' is misleading.
Is it right that some recent arrivals to the UK have the same eligibility to apply for housing benefits as people who have lived here all their lives? A higher proportion of the foreign-born population live in subsidised social housing than the UK-born population.

This is remarkable: 170 Dutch academics put together a 5-point manifesto for economic change after the C19 crisis, building on #degrowth principles. It has gone viral in Dutch media. In this thread I'll summarize the points in English.

14/20 That’s why, even today, amidst the pain and the feeling that the belief in peace has collapsed, we extend a hand in peace to the mothers of Gaza and the West Bank. We mothers, together with women from all over the world must unite in order to stop this madness.

1/20 It took us a week to formulate this statement. We are a movement of Jewish and Arab women with diverse opinions. We found ourselves in a threatening, horrifying reality. Words can't convey our past week's experience. We're searching for the right words to share.

Time to shift from the goal being prevention (system benefit) to people living healthier, happier lives? They may sound similar but the 1st means putting people into pathways & services but the 2nd means working with people to do what works for them.
I’m attending a roundtable at the Labour conference on “Putting Prevention at the Heart of Adult Social Care”. These debates tend to start from the premise of “system and workforce under pressure” with the goal being “managing demand” mostly via data & tech 1/

Loved joining a Personalised Care learning session today as part of my work on Lung Health @ home. The focus on empowering people with knowledge and skills to achieve their health goals is so aligned with my values and previous work with communities and in the built environment.
