As of today, for the next three weeks, I am ‘locked out’ by my employer, on zero pay, for participating in @UCU’s Marking and Assessment Boycott. A short thread on why I am participating. 1/6

So turns out that, by telling boycotting staff they're losing 100% of pay & getting 50% back ex gratia (to avoid having to justify 50% as a value being directly deducted), Durham and any other uni using that argument might end up paying that 50% tax free!

The police have arrested what appear to be peaceful republican protesters in Trafalgar Square. It’s in everybody’s interests, especially the Met’s, that they explain exactly why as soon as possible. No matter what you think about monarchy, this is a deeply disturbing moment.
