Well this happened today 🎖️ 😊 .. what a phenomenal experience to be at Buckingham palace investiture with the Princess Royal. Proud to represent nursing and the NHS
I am delighted to be appointed to the Chief Nurse role at
@NHS_HealthEdEng
and also part of national nursing team with
@CNOEngland
. Our work is vital and never more so now in support of the NHS at this time of

We’ve developed an e-learning programme in response to

I’m appalled at what I have seen in videos ofTrafalgar Sq. Our NHS & social care staff had the knowledge, skills & courage to stand against covid for all of us. They stood unbowed in hospitals, homes, care homes and communities to do what many could not. I have

one that I was thrilled to receive & also on behalf of our profession. I have loved being a nurse for nearly 30 yrs - as a clinician, academic & leader. It’s been tough, but it is the most rewarding career I can imagine. 1/
Thank you for flagging this to me . We
@NHS_HealthEdEng
recognise this is not appropriate language and content in the program. We will remove today , reflect and revise it . We will also relook at process. I appreciate this has caused anger and annoyance and apologise.

there are many colleagues across the world who are delivering care to those who need our expertise in the face of conflict, oppression & danger inc. the conflict in Ukraine and humanitarian crisis - my thoughts with them all today
#nursesforpeace
‘Glorified’ nurses !?? I’m appalled at this rhetoric from a Senior doctor - so disrespectful to nurses generally and those who move on to ACP roles - we are there to support patients, sevice users and clients . Not take medical jobs .
Sorry both , but advanced nursing and AHP practice is not a role to make GP’s life easier, be a cheaper option , filing and admin clerk or to manage low complexity work . They are clinicians whose role enhances GP services with their expertise

Appalling and disrespectful comments to the many ACP’s and others delivering care alongside doctors up and down the county . Many of whom who would have helped and supported you in training and practice Una.

a thread to future nurses from
@NHS_HealthEdEng
The reason no one took any notice Mr Jackson, FRCS was that there was a significant evidence base to say grad RN was safer and more effective .... plus the fact that your view was patronising, out dated twaddle.
Our student nurse colleagues across the country have been making a difficult decision to volunteer in our national
#COVID19
response. I have tried to engage with many of you and i know how hard this has been.
@CNOEngland
and I are proud of you whatever decision you make
Today
@ucas_corporate
have released their end of cycle data.
@CNOEngland
and I are thrilled to see we have exceeded 30,000 acceptances for nursing & midwifery courses at English universities for the very first time this year. This works out as a 34% increase since 2018. (1/5)
We have published our revamped retention guide. It provides lots of great case studies and resources, including retire and return guides for staff, trust’s preceptorship and flexibility offers to their staff, career maps and much more.
#ournhspeople
Whilst we hoped we would not need to take this action again once again our 3rd years have been asked to be part of the response. We will work with partners to ensure all students are supported which ever year group, wherever they work, and that they learn & develop . >MR 1/
This is without doubt one of the most challenging times of my career and those I work with , we have listened to a wide range of views in delivering a nursing response. Any plan will change as we progress and we will continue to listen

I'd like thank all our nursing colleagues who do a phenomenal job every day in health & care. From Mental Health, Learning disabilities, adult & child nursing, it is a brilliant career that has huge impact on the lives of people they support & care for
I recognise that there has been a great deal of concern raised by students and others in academic work and clinical practice. I am sorry for this confusion and have been working with partners to provide greater clarity for all.
Well 🤦♂️ .. apparently these two think modern nursing is broken , better when Florence was around , and in the 1970’s when it was ‘proper’ nursing when we did what we we’re told and generally let docs do the complex stuff . I’ll this with you 👇🏼
in the midst of this intense work and pressure - people have been so kind. Asking 'are you ok ? whose looking after you , Mark?' They have arrived at critical points in the last few days and have provided much needed support. Thank you

Again 🤦♂️! The 'evidence' says otherwise increasing education in nursing. This kind of view perpetuates Misogyny ; Anti-intellectualism ; anti-evidence based practice ; patriarchy ... i could go on (and on!) . Care concerns need raising/sorting by but not through less Edu.
As we come to the end of what’s been another tough year, I wanted to take the opportunity to reflect on the enormous contributions of our health and care workers, who have continued to be inspiring. 1/

Id rather be described an academic researcher who is also a Nurse - rather than a non-medical academic ! Language defines behaviour,inclusion & value in the research community that impacts opportunities. Importantly then the value placed on contribution to transformation.
Thank you Claire , Absolutely this 👇🏼. There is no person I know who cares more for pts , families and nhs staff’. People making judgements without seeing the 1000s of hours Ruth as a Brilliant leader gives - It’s bullying and sexism

The offensive bullying on social media can be dreadful. I don’t think our CNO will be put off from reaching out because of a few. She has purpose, passion and a job to do. And she will do it!

I just wanted to say thank you for all the kind messages of support, ideas , suggestions via DM, timeline and email - thank you ! They are positive wanting to make a contribution for helping to respond to the COVID-19 challenge. I’m getting to as many as I can ☺️
