this may be semantics but i feel like it's important to distinguish between an error and a bad number. no mistake was made here, i made a horrific number, hung it and took bets, wasn't the first one and won't be the last. however historically it may be the worst. circa sports.

Attn Offshore Sportsbooks: I can attest that no one is betting 181 Ohio/Akron at -9 and 211 Liberty/UAB at -1.5. It's safe to a hang a line. we have a 5k limit on 181 and a 10k limit on 211. Set the limit at 25% of your normal game limit and open it up, trust me it will be ok.

it doesnt have to be this way. sportsbooks can accept bets from all players and make more money in the process. it involves hiring talented bookmakers and having a long term view of your business. just the fact that this article was written should tell you how dumb this model is.

often i think bettors don't understand that every line move is not an immediate reaction to a bet just placed. a majority of my non gameday line moves are either exploratory or continuation moves. continuation meaning following up on an earlier line move that lacked resistance.

pro tip: this is the one race a year where i'm liable to take way too big a bet if you come to the counter and ask. limits on the app go up to 5k for hamlin to win. as a bookmaker if you aren't scared of losing your job based on the outcome of this race you're doing it wrong.

Football bet hold percentage in Nevada in September was 10.73%, which means the books really won. The annual average hold over the past five years is 5.76%. Unders and public sides losing are two of the culprits.
