Seeing
@hbarnes
stay on the bench and support his soon to be former teammates in the 4th qtr tonight was so impressive. An incredible example of the consummate professional and teammate he has been here and will be in Sacramento. Much respect to a great dude!
From MSG last night, this is why Mike Breen is a Hall of Famer. Against the team your calling the game for and a fantastic call on the Luka putback. The best basketball play-by-play man. Period. End of story.
Rick Carlisle just said about Doc Rivers calling a timeout & getting on mic & starting a standing ovation for Dirk: "One of the greatest things I've seen. It's an original. I've never seen that. Doc is special. One of the people I respect the most. I know Dirk was touched by it."
That OT win was so much fun. There's plenty of great stats to discuss but this moment of Luka and Kyrie walking arm in arm together and the team coming together at the end is one of the best things I've seen. It's a special group who play for each other and you love to see that!
Just wanna say thanks to the MFFLs & others who reached out about the broadcast. It's truly appreciated. A fun team w/ great players doing awesome things leading to wins certainly makes the announcers sound better! And Harp's "Got It" was 🔥. We had a perfect angle from our spot!
Not just in this case but I've noticed over the last few years what a great job the social media departments of the Mavs, Rangers, Cowboys, Stars and FC Dallas all do in supporting each other. Love the spirit of being part of a larger community that it exemplifies.
Not long ago, Dereck Lively posted this on IG. In pregame availability, Jason Kidd addressed Kathy Drysdale's passing and called her "an incredible woman." He added Lively was at shootaround today to talk w/ his teammates about his mother's declining health. She passed shortly…
With Luka's 27 pts tonight, he is assured of avg at least 20 ppg, 7 rpg, 5 apg. The only other rookie to reach those benchmarks in NBA history....Oscar Robertson 1960-61
Well a lot has happened while I've been in Tulum the last few days. I know many have weighed in on why. Probably aren't too many on the edge of their seats wondering what I think but I've know Donnie and Rick a long time and had some personal perspectives to share.
Due to the Joel Embiid injury, he no longer has played in at least 70-percent of his team's games and doesn't qualify for the NBA scoring leaders. The NBA leader in scoring is now Luka Dončić.
A privilege to write and voice this and I can't say enough about the video and audio work by the talented group at
@FOXSportsSW
to make it come to life. Hope you enjoy my thoughts on Dirk and what he has meant to the Mavs and North Texas
History of recent North Texas sports championships:
1999 - Stars win the Stanley Cup
2011 - Mavs win the NBA Finals
2023 - Rangers win the World Series
It was destined to be our time here. I'm so happy. But I sure hope we don't have to wait til 2035 for another one 😀🏀⚾🏈🏒⚽
I cannot begin to describe how happy I am right now!!! A lot of memories of Arlington Stadium and the Ballpark have come flooding back. We've waited a long time but no more waiting 😀😀😀⚾⚾⚾
2023-24 for Luka Dončić:
Most pts created per game NBA history (57.2).
1 of 4 plyrs in NBA history to finish top 15 in ppg, rpg, apg & spg.
Most combined ppg, rpg & apg since 71-72 (52.9).
33.9 ppg, 4th highest ppg in last 35 yrs.
2nd most 30-point triple-doubles in a season…
Thanks to all for watching the broadcast this season. All of us that are part of the show appreciate the support during a season that fell short of everyone's expectations. 24th season of Mavs broadcasting and look forward to many more. Happy Easter!
#MFFL
Like any NBA season the Mavs had their ups and downs but 50 wins is a great accomplishment and there were some memorable moments! And you can enjoy those here with this outstanding video from the production and editing team at BSSW!
With the end of the reg season it's official that Luka Dončić wins the scoring title at 33.9 ppg and Daniel Gafford shoots 72.5% to lead the NBA in FG% w/ the third highest FG% of all-time. They're the first Mavs to ever lead in ppg & FG%. A great achievement & congrats to both!
Due to network exclusives for any game moving forward, today's Game 6 of the Mavs vs Clippers is the last
@FOXSportsSW
broadcast of the season for
@D_Harp_12
,
@SkinWade
& me. We hope you'll be tuned in today & we appreciate all of our viewers throughout this unforgettable season.
Tonight Luka Doncic raised,
His scoring avg from 33.6 to 34.6 ppg
FG% from .482 to .492
3pt% from .373 to .381
FT% from .769 to .777
May not seem like a lot but hard to move your averages that much in one night 38 games into your season.
So glad PJ Washington Jr. has a Mavs game winner now. Looked like he would get one in Cleveland but of course we remember how that turned out...but this shot and the defensive stop after brought it home against the Warriors. Good times!
If there was any question about the idea that "Dunks Are Fun," check out this video from our
@wfaa
broadcast of the game, with highlights of the team record 18 dunks in the Mavs win vs Utah...
I am blown away that these guys got the news they did today regarding Adolis and Scherzer and have come out and responded with two five run innings already. And with Jankowski playing a significant role in both of them. Absolutely amazing!
In the entire history of the Rangers their longest regular season road win streak is 9 games...did it in July-August 1977 and also in August 2013. They've now won 10 straight road games this postseason. Unbelievable!
My timeline today was:
10:10A: Can you do this if we can't find anyone else & the Mavs OK it
11A: The you're it call
1P: After 90 mins of prep, hit the road to OKC
4p: Arrive Paycom Center
6p: Game/Telecast
9:15p: Stop at Chicken Express in Moore, OK 😀
12a: Back home in Dallas
Mavs play-by-play man
@MFollowill
is in the midst of a remarkable run in these strange times — an emergency solo broadcast, carrying Dirk throughout his analyst debut and now last-minute fill-in for the Pelicans’ crew.
Look at this group of fans who have traveled here from Slovenia to support
@luka7doncic
. They'll be in Houston for the game tomorrow and Wednesday here from Miami. Gremo Slovenjia! 🇸🇮
On the floor right now with
@swish41
, Mavs head coach Rick Carlisle and owner Mark Cuban. And NBA legends (L to R) - Detlef Schrempf, Shawn Kemp, Larry Bird, Scottie Pippen and Charles Barkley! WOW!
Most games played in Mavs history:
1. Dirk - 1522
2. Brad Davis - 883
3. Derek Harper - 872
4. Rolando Blackman - 865
5. JJ Barea - 627
Passed Michael Finley with his appearance vs Minnesota tonight.
Amazing stuff for a guy who was a UDFA who came to Dallas in 2006.
The Mavs 10-2 road record features wins over the Bucks, Lakers, Rockets and Nuggets...two of those victories snapped an 18 game Bucks win streak and a 10 game Lakers win streak
The Mavs put together a very nice video tribute to Rick Carlisle that was played in arena before the game tonight. It was shown live on the broadcast as well along with shots of Rick's reaction and I was not expecting to see him get emotional like that. Wow
When the Mavs game ended (with a win vs Chicago), they fairly quickly switched the AAC scoreboard to the Rangers. Several thousand were still here to see the Semien homer. It was awesome!!!!
With Dirk's contract signing announcement today, some things to share about his historic, upcoming 21st season and his recently completed 20th. From the desk of Followill, here you go!
Mike, the only thing on par with your hall of fame career is the eloquence, dignity, and sincerity of this announcement. Bravo on an incredible career and creating one of the great success stories in radio, anytime and anywhere.
I wanna save this Stars OT on the DVR. It's so messed up that the late switch to USA means it's going to be on there now as Law & Order: Special Victims Unit - "Pornstar's Requiem"
Today's rally from down 21 points to win is the biggest playoff comeback in Mavs history. The previous was down 19 to win at San Antonio in G5 of the 2003 Western Conference Finals
I found this from the telecast of Dirk's last home game. Some of you saw it, maybe some missed it, maybe some wanna see it again. The editors and producers I collaborated with did incredible work bringing thoughts I had about Dirk, the player and person, come to life.

Had to ban myself from social media during the last few games lol. Too many volatile swings of emotion. I love this team man. Given all that's happened, tonight might feel better than Feliz striking out ARod in Game 6 in 2010!

orange jacket!
Watch the enshrinement ceremony tomorrow at 8pm/et on NBA TV.
Thrilled to be a part of the talented group of announcers for NBC's coverage of the Tokyo Olympics. I'll be working from Stamford, CT. on soccer which starts 7/21, two days before the Opening Ceremony. Calling the 2016 Olympics was a dream assignment & honored to do it again
After his 3-pointer to force OT today...Dante Exum was 8/11 on 3s in NBA designated clutch time. 8/12 after missing one in OT but the one he made sent everyone in AAC, including us, into a frenzy!!! What an addition to this team!
A broadcast/personal update. Due to health & safety protocols I won't be on the next two telecasts (tonight & Wed) on BSSW. Very mild symptoms, so feeling quite fortunate first of all & hoping to return ASAP. While I'm out, the great
@coopmavs
is in for me. Y'all enjoy!

Incredible to have Dirk on the broadcast tonight. Fitting he ended the night with this call on the late dunk by Derrick Jones Jr. in the Mavs win vs the Rockets
Luke Walton on the Mavericks' having a 50-12 advantage in free throw attempts in Dallas' win over Sacramento: "I've never seen a 50 free throw game before."
Sending good thoughts and positive energy to many close friends and colleagues at The Freak given today's reports.
One day amidst the rubble of the conglomeratization of local media...I hope someone with the vision and ability to execute the strategy sees local media with local…
That was such an awesome speech by Dirk. Love that dude and loved all he had to say, but speaking to his parents in German something that was obviously very personal and heartfelt was my favorite part. ❤️

It's official. Luka Doncic will start for the West in next month's All Star Game. 3rd year in the league and now will make his 2nd start. Amazing

You could never condense an incredible and historic performance down to two minutes and totally do it justice. But here's what I got...highlights from our broadcast as Luka has a night Harp and I, our crew, the State Farm Arena crowd & all
#MFFL
will never forget with 73 points.
Can't believe this was two years ago. Have said before, my favorite part of this is seeing Dirk up close and talking to Luka on the bench after the step back 3 to go in front. Can only imagine what was being said
It's official. Luka is an All-Star game starter. The only other Mavs player picked as a starter through the fan voting process is Jason Kidd in 1996. Dirk was a starter as a replacement for injured starters in 2007 and 2010
The Mavs win Game 7 in Phoenix by a final of 123-90. It's the 2nd largest margin of victory for a road team in a Game 7, only bettered by a 1948 game when the Philadelphia Warriors beat the St. Louis Bombers by 39. On to play Golden State in the Western Conference Finals!
With 250 million views, the most viewed play on NBA social and digital media platforms this season was the Luka on the floor steal, pass to Kyrie and the alley-oop to Derrick Jones Jr...March 21st in a Mavs win vs Utah 👇
#MFFL
Appreciated Luka's shoutout to Finney-Smith last night in his postgame interview. Finney-Smith had 5 steals & 1 block, the most combined steals & blocks for a player in a Mavs playoff game since 2012. LA players were just 4/14 on FGA defended by DFS. And only 2 fouls in 40 mins!
Woke up and it wasn't a dream. The Rangers won the World Series. For a month we saw:
Adolis then Seager led a lineup that raked.
They rode 2 starters and found a group of enough effective bullpen arms.
Made great plays in the field to stop big innings before they started while…
ICYMI from our postgame show on Wednesday night, here's how the final numbers ended up for Dirk and where he ranked in NBA history in 7 significant statistical categories.
47 points for Luka Dončić against Houston is the 10th highest scoring regular season game of his career. Luka also tied his career high with nine 3pters but an outrageous two-pointer was the unforgettable moment for Harp and me on the broadcast, and

watching
As noted today on the broadcast, right now Luka Dončić is ranked in the top 20 in pts, rebs, assists and steals per game.
34.6 ppg - 1st
8.8 rpg - 18th
9.5 apg - 3rd
1.5 spg - 7th
Top 20 in all 4 of those has been done by Larry Bird in 6 seasons, 3 for Russell Westbrook, and one…
50 games in for the Mavs and (31-19). For some comparison:
2018-19: (23-27)
2017-18: (16-34)
2016-17: (20-30)
2015-16: (27-23)
2014-15: (33-17)
2013-14: (29-21)
2012-13: (22-28)
2011-12: (28-22)
2010-11: (35-15)
Been a long time but the Mavs end an 11 year drought of winning a playoff series. The Mavs beat Utah 98-96 in a heartstopping Game 6 victory to win the series 4-2. Jalen Brunson made a 3 to put the Mavs ahead for good with 2:03 to go as he & Luka led the Mavs w/ 24 pts each
Today as we celebrate the 25th birthday of Luka Dončić, Luka has reached these rankings amongst all players before they turned 25:
Points - 10,825 (3rd)
Triple-doubles - 66 (2nd)
3pters - 1,114 (1st)
40+ point games - 41 (4th)
Assists - 3,110 (7th)
You love to see it! 🇸🇮
@bballbreakdown
I wasn't confused. I know what happened. But it's obvious what the intention was there and a more experienced official would recognize that and not call something completely immaterial like it's 10th grade JV. Even Kyrie noted said ref acknowledged he knew what they were trying…
With 400 career games played as of Wed., Luka Dončić qualifies for career NBA leaders in all per game stat categories. Top career combined ppg, rpg & apg in NBA history are now:
Wilt Chamberlain- 57.4
Luka Dončić- 45.6
Bob Pettit- 45.6
Elgin Baylor- 45.2
Oscar Robertson- 42.7
