Another @AMLE conference is in the books! I am so deeply appreciative of the 4 (!) chances I had to share my work with others. #AMLE24 @FrostMSVA

After only three days of class, a student went to the National Book Festival, found the children's book author I said I was sad to miss (we couldn't go this year), and did this . 😭😭🥰.#OneFrost @fcpsnews @OliverJeffers @samwinston_

Oh my goodness, yes to this whole 🧵!. As an 8th grade teacher, I'm only seeing the tip of this in how it changed state law, but nothing being offered hits what it should how it should to benefit all kids.
Most if not all resistance to shifting trends in literacy instruction comes not from teachers opposed to teaching phonics (few are) but from those who recognize the harm of culturally destructive boxed programs that keep us from giving our students what they need & deserve.

I feel like very similar things could be said about taking a full load of honors courses. Stick to the interesting things you're willing to work harder in.
Reminder #3a: Our research finds that taking just 1-2 APs per year optimizes a student’s readiness for college. Take more only if the subject matter truly interests.

One of the best things about the #GridCertificationCohort is getting deep feedback on my GRID plans. @teachbetterteam.

Thank goodness for @RaeHughart! Her suggestion from #TheGridMethod class last week for using generative AI to develop learning targets just saved me so much time and mental energy. Way easier to evaluate the suggestions versus creating them from scratch. @teachbetterteam.

First off, @heymrsbond's response is top notch. Second, is anyone in a classroom truly surprised?.
“The tests are not measuring how much students learned or can learn,” says Tienken. “They are predominately measuring the family and community capital of the student.”

This is why discussions are so crucial. Kid reads below grade level? Have them talk about their text. Kid doesn't read English fluently? Have them talk about their text. Kid hates the content, isn't motivated, blah blah blah? Have them talk about their text. Talking = thinking.
Reading that has been reduced to nothing more than an extraction exercise is not conducive to building readers who can think on their own.
