Roald Dahl on Measles: Olivia, my eldest daughter, caught measles when she was seven years old. As the illness took its usual course I can remember reading to her often in bed and not feeling particularly alarmed about it. Then one morning, when she was well on the road to

@sappholives83 Misogyny is the foundation of gynaecology. Women’s pain is normalised: painful periods? don’t care, painful labour? don’t care, painful procedure? don’t care. Gynaes KNOW there is pain, but it’s women’s pain so it doesn’t matter. Advocate for yourself - it’s the only way

Hospitals are full of sick patients with infectious viruses like flu & Covid. The air is thick with infectious aerosols as ventilation rates are often appalling & no one wears FFP masks. Viruses spread like wildfire to other patients & staff. Why is NOTHING done to fix this?

Florence Nightingale's 1859 book 'Notes on Nursing'. Chapter 1 focuses on ventilation. "The very first canon of nursing… : keep the air he breathes as pure as the external air, without chilling him." Fast fwd 166 years and all has been forgotten. UK hospital ward 2025: 1/🧵

Flu (+RSV/HMPV etc) doesn't have to be "super" to cause profound harm, disruption, & NHS pressure. SARS2 variants don't have to be "more virulent". Not being in the emergency phase of a pandemic does NOT mean we should revert back to ignoring infectious disease. #VaccinesPlus

Please stay home if you’re feeling sick. If you absolutely can’t stay home, wear a mask. There are people who can’t afford to get sick. People without paid time off, people who are disabled or immune compromised, people who are caregivers. Help break chains of transmission

Yes, children get sick. Yes, there has always been plenty of illness in schools. Yes, there have always been airborne viruses spreading around classrooms. But no, it's never been this bad. Because no, we didn't used to actively encourage the spread of illness or ignore harm.

Spain has masks back in hospitals & free Covid and flu vaccines… The UK tells you to wash your hands to protect against these airborne viruses & expects no one to question the logic This really is the worst place to be right now

COVID Is Different I get it. You think COVID isn’t that dangerous anymore. You think it’s just like all the other viruses now. A lot of it has to do with the times you grew up in. We don’t have much memory of viruses and bacteria killing thousands of people. We don’t remember

The @elsadiabetes study is a clinical study funded by @BT1DUK and @DiabetesUK. It’s free to 3-13 year olds, with scope to bring it down to 2 year olds. The NHS do not fund it, and the respective charities above deserve the credit for this. It is important to note that if your
