A single tree can house an entire ecosystem! Some oaks support over 1,000 species of insects, birds, and fungi. 🌳🐞 Nature’s metropolis! #TreeFacts #biodiversity

Fabulous forests of oakmoss🤍💚🩶 Despite the name, this is not a moss & grows on many types of tree (here on blackthorn)🌳 It is edible & has also been long used in the perfume industry for its pungent, woody scent🤍💚🩶

This is a slip road onto the M2 motorway in Kent. But it could be anywhere in the country. The motorway network is a total cesspit and @NationalHways - with its £5 BILLION annual budget - doesn’t care what you think. It’s a national scandal that needs exposing.

The word 'Yule' as a name for Christmas goes back to the Anglo-Saxon name for the winter solstice, Giuli or Geola. After the conversion to Christianity it was transferred to Christmas, making it perhaps the longest-enduring festival name in English. https://t.co/B563J0W8l9

The ancient O Antiphons of the last days of Advent are best known today in the form of the hymn 'O Come, O Come, Emmanuel'. But centuries earlier they also inspired an Anglo-Saxon poem, which meditates on their rich imagery and powerful sense of longing. https://t.co/RhIYvHa0gw

I love these little snowdrop hanging baubles. Just use a woody compost and pack it into a ball, florist wire some lawn moss around it and hang it from twiggy trees. So cute.

And for those of you who enjoy Christmas plant-lore, here’s another story about the rosemary plant for you, and a legend about how it came by its name.
Legend tells that when Mary laid baby Jesus' clothes on a fragrant bush to dry the plant transformed into a sunbeam. It was named Mary's Rose (Rosemary) and became a symbol of hope, said to bring peace & good-will to those who decorate their homes with it at #Christmas. #Folklore

A single holly tree perfectly displaying the fact that holly is only sharp when it needs to be🌿💚🌿 At the top of the tree - on the left, above the reach of deer - the leaves remain smooth. While at the bottom, where it gets nibbled, it becomes prickly 🌿🎄🌿
