3. Clustering into nano-sized formations of over 50 molecules optimizes helicase activity for both proteins. 4. DDX3Y shows similarities to certain cancer-associated DDX3X variants, forming larger clusters linked to reduced helicase activity.

key points of the work: 1. DDX3Y functions as a helicase at several times slower than DDX3X. 2. The RNA-release step is one of the major steps distinguishing DDX3X and DDX3Y.

3. Wild-type DDX3Y enhances condensation viscosity and alters the proteome in DDX3Y-DDX3X mutant condensates, distinct from the effects seen in DDX3X-DDX3X mutant condensates.

Key points of the discoveries: 1. DDX3X cancer variants uniquely impact enzymatic activity, cellular morphology, and function 2. Certain clinically severe DDX3X variants form hollow condensates within cells, likely resulting from disrupted RNA release.
