Q3 profits: BP = £1.7 billion Shell = £4.6 billion £6.3 billion profits made from the destruction of the planet in THREE MONTHS. Enough is enough. @10DowningStreet it’s time to #MakePollutersPay for the damage they have caused.

I can confirm that we plan to stick with a £2 cap on single bus fares for the whole of 2025. More detail here.👇🏻

The targeting of maternity hospitals and the blockade that limits essential medical supplies, such as anaesthetics and maternity kits, from entering Gaza have turned pregnancy into a life-threatening condition for thousands of women

My @Channel4News report on Israel’s relentless pounding of northern Gaza. It took a remarkably brave and persistent cameraman to get these pictures out to us. The world cannot say that it didn’t see. Or know.

Trauma upon trauma upon trauma. I have no adequate words.
Overnight at least four people were killed and dozens injured when their tent encampment caught fire as Israel struck a hospital compound in central Gaza where it claimed Hamas fighters were embedded. Warning - this report contains extremely distressing images from the start.

Great to finally see a concrete commitment to £ for #SchoolStreets in GM. As Tom Ross says, demand is clearly there. Important that it's used *quickly* to support the volunteer-led schemes that exist to make them viable & prioritise new schools that need these changes the most
School Streets involve limiting traffic during drop off and pick up times to create a pleasant child-friendly environment when the school gate is busiest. Watch as @DameSarahStorey and Mayor @AndyBurnhamGM see first-hand the positive impact a School Street is having on pupils

Good to see @AndyBurnhamGM in this video appreciating that “there is more we can do here”. Properly enforced #SchoolStreets yes - and also much more action on #AirPollution at source, both from #Transport & #WoodBurning. No child should be tasting pollution.
GM mayor @AndyBurnhamGM & @DameSarahStorey have visited Seymour Park Primary School to see the impact a ‘School Street’ is having on pupils and parents. The road directly outside 30 schools are closed at drop-off and pick-up times. The plan is to deliver 100 by 2028.

On the eve of October 7, here is Naomi Klein’s profound and troubling long essay reflection on the ways in which commemorating grief can re-traumatise and entrench fear and hatred. Very much worth taking the time to read. It’s not about not remembering.

A year later, memorials to the 7 October attacks use art, virtual reality and dark tourism to stir support for limitless violence. But there is a different way to remember

So the headline is in fact, too kind - it's not just the 64 sites that are breaching the legal limits where air pollution is too high. There is not a single monitoring site on that map that is measuring levels of NO2 under the recommended WHO guidelines.

Children, old people, anyone with existing vulnerabilities or underlying health conditions will pay the price for that delay with their health and wellbeing.

...and recommending that we should be working towards the WHO guidelines. The latest GM plan delaying (yet again) compliance with the UK legal limits shows that Manchester is falling way, way behind where we need to be in terms of air quality.

A serious problem is that those legal limits are way too high. *Four times higher* than recommended by the World Health Organization. Today the @RCPCHtweets released new statement on air pollution, confirming the serious harm caused by toxic air, particularly to children....

Yesterday GM announced an update to its Clean Air Plan, effectively pushing back the date when it thinks it can meet compliance with the UK *legal* limits on NO2 (one of the most harmful pollutants) for another year. https://t.co/8dxtuyTYj0

Thanks MCC for pointing out how important it is to keep cycle lanes free from obstructions. And thanks Sam for all your hard work. Here's the cycle lanes I use most often. Anything we can do about these obstructions?!
As a city that's the home of cycling, with @BritishCycling 🚴🏿♀️, it's important our cycle lanes are free of obstructions. Sam, our Service Improvement Manager from our waste team, explains how we do this. 🚚 #CleanGreenMcr #CycleSeptember #ZeroCarbonMcr #PedalMorein24
