With I-40 closed at the NC/TN line, the NPS is seeing an increase in commercial vehicles attempting to drive over US441/Newfound Gap Road. Commercial vehicles are prohibited on US 441/Newfound Gap Road for the safety of all drivers.

I drove out to Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest on Friday to check on the wildfire and learn more about the 400-year-old forest's history. The Forest Service told me today that the Haoe Lead Fire is now 85% contained.
