For years, Camden residents have lived with hazardous fires and smoke in their community—all because of the outrageous conduct of EMR, a metal recycler next door. It must end now. With @NewJerseyDEP, we’re taking EMR to court to hold them accountable. https://t.co/C4oWSYQDOy

No matter how you lean on the political aisle, Asm. @BillMoen bills (A5533, A5534, and A5535) to address scrap metal facilities handling of lithium batteries are common sense wins for public safety.
After a devastating Camden scrapyard fire forced families from their homes & raised health concerns, Asm. @BillMoen immediately introduced tough new legislation to crack down on unsafe scrap metal sites and protect our communities from future disasters. https://t.co/d9WDcvnZ4S

"Here's what EMR plans for the community" ... EMR should not get to plan anything. They should be held accountable by @NewJerseyDEP @NJGov @CityofCamdenGov @CityofCamdenGov not allowed to decide some arbitrary payoff. An oversight panel should be put in charge. @jimwalsh_cp
The company is to reimburse the city for losses from the massive fire and plans significant investments in the Waterfront South neighborhood.

Thank you for speaking on these ongoing fires and environmental justice issues being caused by EMR and other NJ scrap yards. Looking forward to hearing soon from @shawnlatur who knows EMR's operations in Camden very well. Camden kids shouldn't have to live through another fire.
Let me be clear - EMR’s ability to operate without accountability from the state speaks to a broader conversation about environmental justice, politics in NJ, and how we treat urban/poorer areas of the state. Nobody should be forced to live in an area with a polluter that has

It's been over two weeks and not a peep from the 2025 Gov candidates on the disastrous EMR fire in Camden that displaced dozens and lead to hazardous AQ across the region. @MikieSherrill @Josh4Jersey @rasjbaraka @StevenFulop @SteveSweeney_NJ @spillerfornj @JonBramnick @Jack4NJ
breaking for @njdotcom, I obtained a @CityofCamdenGov fire department incident report which says the recent massive blaze was made worse by employees on the scene. First responders also said they were hampered by a blocked entry amid the #NewJersey blaze

Grateful that Steven is still reporting on environmental issues in Camden.
exclusive for @njdotcom, I obtained audio of a @camdencountynj official saying Friday’s huge EMR fire could have led to flooding of half-a-million homes with raw sewage or caused a spill into #NewJersey waterways. It could have easily “made national news.”

@EMRmetal @lauren_rap @NewJerseyDEP “Folks are having serious health impacts. Impacts to their property, impacts to their livelihood,” Camden activist @LibSaracco said. “What does justice look like for this community from EMR and is EMR even capable of being the decider of that?”

This is the SIXTH fire at the EMR facility since 2016. There must be accountability, and it’s time to shut it down. This is environmental injustice. The residents of Camden deserve action from their leaders, @LouisCappelliJr.

Rest in peace Jessica, she always waved and smiled at my toddler when the light rail went through our neighborhood in Camden. Such a tragic loss...
To allow our employees to attend the funeral and honor their colleague, Jessica Haley, who tragically lost her life in last Monday's accident, the River LINE will operate on an adjusted schedule tomorrow, Wednesday, October 23. Learn more at

As a parent of a district student, I am disgusted by the inaction of the Camden Advisory School Board to vote to remove Wasim Muhammed. The silence of the Mayor, city council council, and the school district administration is an utter embarrassment.
I agree with Ms. Vida and with @GovMurphy . Wasim Muhammad must resign or be removed - *immediately* - from the Camden City BOE. And lots of current office holders should be calling for the same damn thing.

That moment when you’re a union president, and find out that a teacher and union member is going to be the next vice-president. We’re excited for former public school teacher & AFT member @Tim_Walz to join @KamalaHarris on the ballot this November! 📸@rweingarten #AFTvotes

The top two towns in the entire state that will be underwater by the end of the century are in Cape May County. Yet they want to "move slowly" to address it. Extreme ideology is a hell of a drug. More powerful than self-preservation, apparently.
Cape May County towns are asking New Jersey to move slowly and carefully on new rules addressing climate change impacts, and to take the local economy into account. Middle Township Committee has a similar resolution on the agenda tonight: https://t.co/AUwZlPIbps
