.@tweetinjules describes safety by design perfectly in this ep. “You don’t build a city in a desert, not understanding where the water sources are, where you’re going to put the sewage — you make it safe by design.”.

Tech companies can stop the spread of CSAM yet their actions suggest it's not a priority for them. We desperately need government regulation to hold this industry accountable for the continuing devastation survivors face.

Heartbreaking words from a survivor in today's episode: “It dawned on me that my worst nightmare has occurred. That this had spread everywhere & that anyone at any time could go & view it if they wanted & that I am never ever going to escape from it.”.

Miranda’s child was abducted & sexually abused for 7 days because tech platforms have refused to protect children. We cannot stand idle. Government must regulate social media platforms to prevent this extreme violence from reaching more Canadian children.

Nowhere is safe for Canadian children while they have access to unregulated social media. In the past year alone, reports of online sexual exploitation to increased by 27%. Canada needs the Online Harms Bill to protect our children.

2 important articles from @nytimes highlighting–again–the absolute failures of tech companies to protect children. These companies turn a blind eye to what is happening on their platforms so they don’t have to take steps to fix it. Why is that an option?.Pass the #OnlineHarmsBill.

I want to say a huge thank you to Carol, Barbie & Miranda for courageously sharing with the Standing Committee today. Their stories aren't easy to share, but they are willing to do it to protect other kids from the online harms their children suffered.

These six moms are fighting for their children who were sexually victimized online. Social media platforms have shown us that they will always choose profit over user's safety. Government regulation can change this. Canada needs the Online Harms Bill to protect our children.

Splitting this bill will help ensure this urgently needed legislation can move forward and focus on one of the few things it seems we can at least all agree on: the need to protect our kids in digital spaces.

A difficult decision for Justice Minister Virani today, but ultimately splitting Bill C-63 was the right one. From the beginning, the core of the #OnlineHarmsBill has been about prioritizing the safety and well-being of Canadian children.
