Scotland's capital's first public library was designed to maximise natural light achieved by a west wall of windows, and a raised ceiling in its lowermost public room, which led to the addition of four steps to the Lending Library from George IV Bridge, now lost to Virgin Hotels.

Why Sir GWB's funeral was conducted in a secular setting can only be speculated upon, but what is quite incredible is just how prolific George Washington Browne's architectural practice was, as recorded by @HistEnvScot's Dictionary of Scottish Architects. https://t.co/bTGvHz1A4l

Curiously, albeit perhaps fittingly as a former President @RoyalScotAcad, and acclaimed architect of public libraries, Sir GWB's funeral service took place in the Royal Scottish Academy Library, his coffin placed in front of the presidential chair. https://t.co/8PsX1Qphd1

This is the same Council Leader who just a matter of months ago said no Libraries would close. Period. If you agree Maryhill's library should be protected in its beautiful and historic home, you can join the 3,000 plus who have signed our petition.

Maryhill Library is a very important community space and a historic building in the city, we cannot afford to lose it.
I agree. Which is why Maryhill Library is not closing - it’s just moving, likely across the road to the Glasgow Club. Of course it’s a bit sad when a service has to move from a historic building. But it’s the service that matters & we’re 💯 committed to restarting that asap

Nearly 60 sports venues, libraries, community centres and museums to stay shut in Glasgow following lockdown. Opponents accuse the SNP - which runs the city - of "neglect" over the potential closures

Two community libraries with more than a century of service have been shut for good with little warning in Glasgow. You fear what other public assets will be chopped with the pandemic blamed.
Glasgow Life is looking for "other uses" for Maryhill and Whiteinch libraries which are currently closed to the public.

I urge Glasgow Life to rethink and move quickly to bring forward re-opening plans for Maryhill Library at its current location. The local community want access to its library as soon as possible. We should not have to wait whilst GL consider any potential community hub plans.

This is sophistry. Maryhill Library has worked well for 116 years in its purpose-built building. It's already co-located with @maryhill_halls. There would be no need to remove its historic use - leaving an empty building - if the city's budget wasn't being disproportionately cut.

Ray Harryhausen: Titan of Cinema's creatures let loose around Edinburgh will hopefully visit @edcentrallib!
To celebrate the reopening of Ray Harryhausen: Titan of Cinema on 26 April at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, the @NatGalleriesSco have let some of the iconic cinema pioneer’s most famous creatures loose around #Edinburgh! Our Scott Monument seems a good climb!

We want you to know that we are keen to reopen libraries in line with the Scottish Government route map which allows for this from 26th April 2021, where safe to do so. However, as you know this is…

Nearly 2,000 have now signed our petition. If you agree with me that Maryhill and the North of Glasgow should not be forgotten about and our services protected, please add your name to the many others trying to save our historic Library 👇
Today Nicola Sturgeon announced libraries can reopen from Monday but that won't be the case in Maryhill if some have their way. More than 1,600 have signed our petition to ensure our library opens again. Maryhill won't be forgotten about. Please support ✍️ https://t.co/mWhQc1wM7f

@Crowrivernet @Airisaiia @oeysterpearl @Holledge So depressing, especially when @Edinburgh_CC sold land acquired for Central Library's benefit from since its inception and when its site was bought in 1887. https://t.co/SOC41YTBwR

@nigelbagshaw It would help if councillors on planning/DMSC committees better trained in planning law and basics of knowing what to look out for in specialist reports etc. Could 'errors of fact' re #IndiaBuildings 15/04445/FUL overturn decision? https://t.co/SoVxe0DFwa

Together with @thecockburn's objection points, which must be material planning considerations, there is also the omission of any daylight impact assessment on @edcentrallib, a category A listed building whose setting is protected @HistEnvScot
