It’s been three years since ‘Time to Think’ was published, so I haven’t read a review in a while. However, these reflections posted yesterday really got to me, especially in the current climate. Whoever posted has, I think, captured the essence of the book. Thank you

I’m sometimes asked to conduct remote capacity assessments of older people and have become wary of this. Works well when capacity obviously is or isn’t present. But, in most cases, where things are greyer or more borderline, it really isn’t possible to make a secure assessment.

Filibuster the key word this wk from supporters of #AssistedDyingBill, joining unconstitutional, undeclared religion, dark money. Why argue like this? Because alternative is to accept opponents actually know about palliative care, disability, suicide, mental capacity & coercion.

I've argued for this before too: it doesn't work to have unrepresentative party memberships pick party leaders in a parliamentary democracy. Far more democratic to let MPs who represent thousands of voters pick their party leader. Both parties were mad to intro these reforms.

Lord Blunkett intervenes for first time, having listened to the debate, saying it would be helpful to debate THIS bill not one "made up" outside the House. Appears a reference to the campaign that says the bill is about alleviating suffering, but this Bill has no such focus

The quality of debate on the Assisted Dying Bill is so much better in the House of Lords than in was in the House of Commons.

The solution is to restore the selection of party leaders to MPs alone

@nmdacosta I’m disgusted by the repeated attempts to frame desire for proper scrutiny as being some sort of subversion of process due to ‘undisclosed religious beliefs’. I don’t care what people’s beliefs are - but I do care about our parliamentarians doing their job properly which is

@AlobhaPatrick @sanilrege @psycheureka It's well done Sanil as always! The positive predictive value paradox of suicide risk prevention renders most of our "instructed" behaviour useless - the only thing we should be doing is getting to know our patients well and improving their lives to the best of our ability.

Europe must do three things: -10% tariff on all American imports going up to 25% if the American tariffs stay in place; -break up the Internet monopolies and halting the transfer of our data to the other side of the Atlantic; -most urgently establish a European Defense Union

WATCH: Baroness @lucianaberger rightly implores Lord Falconer to ensure that no one can request an assisted suicide on behalf of someone else. It is extraordinary that the Bill doesn’t currently make this clear! No wonder so much time is being required for debate in the Lords.

Only surprise here is that he didn’t add Mossad to MI6 & CIA being behind demonstrations in Iran.
BREAKING: Roger Waters says that the Islamic Republic was protecting Iranians and set out police to protect local shopkeepers. An estimated 20,000 Iranians were massacred by the Islamic Republic in less than a week.

Suicide prediction has a math problem We often treat suicide risk assessment as a clinical skill, but it is fundamentally a math problem. Because suicide is a statistically rare event, our predictive tools lack clinical utility. Assessments can only lower risk marginally, as
