In 2021, the WHO African region was home to 95% of malaria cases and 96% of malaria deaths. Children under 5 accounted for about 80% of all malaria deaths in the Region. We must scale up proven interventions, increase access to diagnostics and treatment. #NoMoreMalaria

This month marks 35 years since the GPEI was formed to deliver on a historic promise: the worldwide eradication of polio. Since then, cases have been reduced by 99.9%! But we can’t stop now. Global commitment is vital to #EndPolio so no child is paralyzed by this disease again.

Despite the heavy burden of malaria in the African Region, there is hope! Between 2015 and 2021, Cabo Verde, Ethiopia, the Gambia, Ghana, Mauritania, Rwanda, South Africa and Zimbabwe met the target of a reduction in malaria case incidence of 40% or more.
