My latest for @TheSkepticMag, on the repeated promotion of pseudoscientific health products by @BBCDragonsDen, and their failure to acknowledge the impact a Dragons' Den appearance has on the success and credibility of a quackery business.
Dragons’ Den’s have a quackery problem that goes far beyond ear seeds | Michael Marshall @MrMMarsh While recent attention has understandably been on Dragons' Den's promotion of ME/cfs quackery, the show's flirtation with pseudoscience runs much deeper https://t.co/zut6AUGKWh

It is good to see that a co-ordinated response has been taken by M.E. charities to the appalling Dragon's Den episode that suggested "acu ear seeds" could be a treatment for MECFS and other health conditions. Ear seeds are nonsense and not effective for any health condition
We have coordinated an open letter with other M.E. orgs in response to the recent Dragons Den episode in which a contenstant made unevidenced claims regarding the efficacy of 'acu seeds' as a treatment for #MECFS You can view the letter here:

“The BBC said products being featured on the programme should not be seen as an endorsement of them.” - Sara Davies literally said “the product is brilliant” and Stephen Bartlett was wildly enthusiastic. Every one of the show’s stars praised it fully. How is that not endorsement?

Here's what our Project Director told The Times about the Dragons Den controversy, and why the recent ear seed business is just the tip of the iceberg. It's time they took their responsibility seriously, and stopped featuring - and seeking out - businesses who mislead the public

£2500 is *not* the maximum any family will pay on their energy bills this year. We wrote to the PM about getting this wrong yesterday. This morning, she’s repeated the false claim again in local BBC interviews. The public deserves better. https://t.co/zphIoe0PwL

During an interview on CNN the Prime Minister claimed ‘nobody would have to pay more than £2,500 in energy bills. Per the government’s own figures, this isn’t true.
