If everyone loved transit .2% as much as these kids loved their first time riding the incline in @Pittsburgh, we could make some progress. Public transportation Can be (and sometimes is) absolutely spectacular @vstpgh @PGHtransit

The joke is on Hurricane Milton, Florida banned consideration of climate change in any of its zoning, building, or regulatory policies so I’m afraid Milton will just have to turn around and go back to Mexico
Hurricane Milton will be a CAT 5 soon & will continue to gain strength through tonight. The ceiling for this thing is mind blowing.

Sharing this post that I saw on Blue Sky. As Milton bears down on Florida, and recovery continues from Helene, a good reminder that a large portion of the workforce that helps Americans recover from natural disasters are immigrants of all immigration statuses.

Israeli air strikes have hit Al Ahli hospital in Gaza. More than 500 people - patients, doctors & those sheltering - have been killed. What unspeakable horror. We will mourn their loss forever. Our leaders could have spoken up for peace. They chose to cheer on war instead.

This sentence should end after the word "working" “Under no circumstances should there ever be a 10-year-old child working in a fast-food kitchen around hot grills, ovens and deep fryers.” https://t.co/jsqmuorRfT

I translated Celsius into Fahrenheit for my neighbors in the US to make this marketing piece for trees hit home. And took a trip into some work for the (almost) all powerful Big Tree lobby: https://t.co/luP9hFpATs

I just rode a bike for the first time since I was hit by a car. It was incredible - but it was only possible to get over my persistent fear of re-destroying my head & teeth because of the network of separated bike lanes in Medellín. It's long past time for the US to catch up.

Reminds me of when trying to organize Car-free Day in DC in 2007, DC govt required signatures approving a street closure from 95% of businesses & residents within 500 feet of the entire route! 95%! 🤯 I pointed out that it was August, 95% of residents were gone. DC govt: 🤷♀️+ 😆

"Pittsburghers would love for the Roberto Clemente Bridge to become a pedestrian bridge permanently."
Facebook comments sections aren't good for a lot, but this essay got a ton of response on the PublicSource Facebook page, and the summary: Pittsburghers would love for the Roberto Clemente Bridge to become a pedestrian bridge permanently.

What would you do with the space? Imagine any bridge in any city. Then re-imagine it; it’s not just for transportation anymore. What else could it be? Who could enjoy the space? How would the city / town / people benefit? (thanks @bus15237 for your comment 11 years ago!)

3. Let’s have all-age dance parties every night during warm weather on one side of the bridge 4. And show movies over the river 5. Let’s have music and art performances 6. Let's have some grass and trees and flowers (repurposing bridges for people)

And just found a post I wrote about this in 2012 with 6 possible uses a bridge for people. 1. Let’s turn a bridge into a public park 2. And extend the public market onto one of the bridges with outdoor cafes (cont'd)

I wrote this piece about making one of the bridges in Pittsburgh for people, an idea I was reminded of when I visited the pedestrian bridge in Nashville. Thanks @PublicSourcePA. Fabulous to work with @richelord, as always. https://t.co/8To3gWP9ta

I’ve seen what happens when a city dedicates a single bridge to people, rather than cars, and Pittsburgh could create a paradise over the Allegheny.
