Fighting for the trans community in and out of the Labour Party 🏳️⚧️💪
Joined September 2022
We are horrified and so, so tired. An update will come from us in the next couple of days on how our movement will respond to this. Please stay safe and keep fighting.
News on Victoria Atkins' emergency puberty blockers ban. Wes Streeting's position is that, subject to the outcome of the court proceedings and consultation, he will renew it and convert it into a permanent ban.

We’re completely appalled to see recently readmitted Labour member @MikeGapes liking a tweet that claims that trans people were not key targets of the Holocaust. This is absolutely disgusting and we cannot stand by. Please complain to the Party below.

You cannot beat far-right politics by pandering to it. We made a manifesto commitment and will not allow any notion of breaking it 🏳️⚧️.
🚨 NEW: Labour has shelved its manifesto pledge to make it easier for people to legally change their gender in a bid to counter Reform UK's surge in the polls . [@thetimes].

The Cass Review disregards years of evidence, proposing implementations that would have potentially disastrous consequences for both trans youth and adults. No way should a report with uncited claims and limited research scope be accepted so nonchalantly and uncritically.
The Cass Review must be a watershed moment for the NHS’s gender identity services. My response for @UKLabour underlining our support for the Cass Review’s evidence-led recommendations and our determination to put children’s health and wellbeing above the political fray 👇🏻

This is a massive step to a more trans-inclusive Labour Party. There is so much more to do, but tonight is going to be a good one 🏳️⚧️❤️✊.
🔺EXCLUSIVE: Rosie Duffield (@RosieDuffield1) has resigned as a Labour MP, blaming Sir Keir Starmer’s “cruel and unnecessary” policies and the freebies row that is engulfing him and his party.

Thank you for sticking up for young trans people as always @NadiaWhittomeMP 🏳️⚧️.
The government has announced that it won't review current restrictions on puberty blockers until 2027. I am gravely concerned about the impact this could have on the mental health of some young trans people. My question to the Health Secretary today:

Today, we went to the Department of Health and Social Care to hand in our petition against the puberty blockers ban. Over 17,500 of you signed. @wesstreeting, listen to the Labour movement. Scrap the ban 🏳️⚧️

For months, the Tory Government and right-wing press have whipped up hatred against trans people. As the Party that repealed Section 28 and introduced the Equalities Act, Labour should be opposing this agenda of hate and fighting for a trans-inclusive, progressive Britain.
EXCLUSIVE: Trans group demands Keir Starmer urgently addresses transphobia in Labour – before it's too late.

Your own Trans Officer was unhappy with this statement, but you ignored her and released this cowed half-statement instead. How can you continue to pretend to represent the LGBT+ community in or out of the Labour Party?.
Following the decision taken by the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care regarding the indefinite ban on puberty blockers, we have written to him to express our deep concern to this decision and request that he meet with us to discuss this further. (1/4)

It’s brilliant that over 2,000 people have already signed our open letter calling on @wesstreeting to change course on the puberty blockers ban - can we get to 2,500 by tonight?. Please share with fellow Labour members & all others in the labour movement!.

We hit 10,000 signatures 🏳️⚧️. @WesStreeting, the labour movement isn't behind you on this - there's still time to row back on this unfair, unfounded puberty blockers ban. Can we get to 15,000 by the end of the day?.

"Sex-based rights" are a blatant TERF dogwhistle. Anybody in Labour who wants to stand in solidarity with our community must hold Starmer to account for his increasingly transphobic rhetoric. We have every right to be angry. He is not our ally. We deserve so much better.
'I'm worried about the impact on equality laws.'. Sir Keir Starmer defends his view that 16 is too young to change legal gender. @NickFerrariLBC | @Keir_Starmer

On Trans Day of Remembrance, our community comes together to mourn, reflect, and reaffirm our fight for a better world 🏳️⚧️. If the Labour Party wants to stand with us, it should remove the whip from MPs who stir up anti-trans hate and make our siblings unsafe.
On Transgender Day of Remembrance, we remember the many trans people whose lives have been tragically cut short by violence. The Labour Party will always stand with LGBT+ people.

Happy Trans Day of Visibility! 🏳️⚧️❤️. Today we're focussing on the good news, not the bad - and it's pretty fantastic news. Superstar MP and trans ally @NadiaWhittomeMP has become a Patron of our campaign! We can't wait to work with Nadia towards a trans-inclusive Labour Party.

EHRC’s interim guidance is awful: an overextension of what was decided by the Supreme Court, and with chilling ramifications. When they say there are circumstances where trans people can be excluded from public life altogether, you know it’s about more than delivering “clarity”.
We have shared an interim update on the practical implications of the Supreme Court’s judgment in For Women Scotland v Scottish Ministers:

Whilst Starmer gets a good pink washing his health secretary @wesstreeting is whipping up fear about trans people in hospitals and calling for us to be put in segregated units. How many complaints have there been about trans women on hospital wards again?. Oh yes, zero.
Thank you @AnnelieseDodds, @AshleyDalton_MP, @WardlawSteve and @AbdiDuale_ for joining our LGBT+ History Month reception with @Keir_Starmer. We reaffirmed @UKLabour's commitments to tackling hate crime, modernising gender recognition, fully banning conversion therapy, and more.

This entire incident has been shocking. @HackneyLabour surely knew about Pascal's views given how open she is about them yet chose to continue with her as a candidate and the statement released is clearly at odds with how she wants to present herself and her politics.

Horrifying to see that Keir Starmer cannot bring himself to support bare minimum legislation, undermining the great work done by @ScottishLabour. If Keir Starmer wants us to explain Gillick Competency to him, our invitation for him to speak with us still stands 🏳️⚧️.

Be under no illusions - this is the new Section 28. LGBTQ+ people in Britain are watching their rights being eroded for the first time in decades. If Labour fails to stand against these wretched Tory plans to water down the Equality Act, a generation will never forgive them.
🚨 BREAKING: Labour has welcomed the move by the EHRC to review whether trans people's legal protections under the Equality Act should be changed. A Labour spokesperson said: "Clarification is a good thing. We will look closely at what’s brought forward".

Georgia, you’re the democratically-elected Trans Officer for LGBT+ Labour. We back you fully. @LGBTLabour, why won’t you?.
Unfortunately, despite the advice of the only Trans person on the National Committee, LGBT Labour is again refusing to stand up for trans people. They have informed me that they will not be making a statement on the disturbing comments by @AnasSarwar. Without the T. Again.

The Equality Act is one of Labour’s proudest achievements in Government. For a decade, marginalised communities have enjoyed world-class security and protection. We should expand the Equality Act, not water it down - this would set a dangerous precedent of giving in to hate.
We have provided advice to the Minister for Women and Equalities on the definition of the protected characteristic of 'sex' in the Equality Act 2010. Find out more:

If you’re running for the NEC or NPF, let us know you support a Code of Conduct on transphobia in the Labour Party with a QT or reply. We should have a united front on this 🏳️⚧️.
🏳️⚧️ The NEC has taken strong steps against antisemitism, Islamophobia, and ableism with dedicated Codes of Conduct. As NEC Youth Rep, I’d push for us to do the same for transphobia, because every member should feel safe, valued, and respected🧵

“We urge all Labour NEC members to vote this paper down and for the Labour Party to adopt meaningful policies to combat transphobia within the party. The Labour Party must set an example and stand on the right side of history…”.

Rosie Duffield’s unrepentant transphobia is nothing new. If Labour had any hope of reengaging with the LGBTQ+ community during Pride Month, it would immediately withdraw the whip.
Hey @Keir_Starmer . What are you going to do about this???? So offensive. Appalling and totally unacceptable @UKLabour . If the answer is nothing, then spare us a ‘fake’ attendance at #Pride . No friend of trans or LGBT if this goes unchecked 🌈🏳️⚧️ #RosieDuffield

You’ve liked a tweet which downplays the lethal Nazi persecution of LGBTQ+ people, and compares transition to eugenics!. You defended a thread that engages in blatant denial of historical fact, just to attack trans people…. And then you have the gall to call us the cranks?.
Looks like I’m about to face another Twitter pile on. This time it is for simply liking an interesting tweet thread. Oh dear. What a stupid waste of time. I will not be bullied off Twitter by these historical revisionists, or any other cranks or ideological extremists.
