I will NEVER take for granted being featured in
@Essence
. I will also never take for granted having a tremendously talented writer like
@LivefromMelissa
to tell my story. We bonded over our journeys in media & as black women🫶🏽

For every former WBB player that had to play in an empty gym, and you went to college before the digital era so you might get ONE TV game & your Mom WROTE into the newspaper every time they didn’t print the women’s scores..12.3 Million is for you. You mattered then & you still do
Kahwi is just here to remind everyone that leadership doesn't have to be the loudest voice in the room. Leadership is about consistency and poise in the right moments.
Kind of emotional about Naomi’s win. Black women are trying to heal themselves, their families, their communities, and are still expected to show up and serve as an inspiration all while fighting everyday to prove that we deserve better. We salute you
@naomiosaka

#USOpen
Dawn, we are so grateful for your leadership. The first black woman to lead our women’s
@usabasketball
team & you kept the gold medal tradition going while handling all the pressure & demands with class. Our sport is not where it is today without YOU.
We appreciate YOU🥇
Soooo the women’s tournament doubled the men’s social media engagement last night with 39 MILLION impressions. I hope that when potential sports sponsorships are discussed that people do their homework. Right now Less than 1% of all those dollars go to women’s sports. 📸
@Zoomph
One of the greatest defenders & fiercest competitors to ever play the game. I still remember that bow you wore in your hair at Duke as you dominated the ACC & the country effortlessly on both ends. You persevered to win WNBA D POY awards you deserved. We salute you
@Alanabeard20
!
Arguably the greatest starting lineup of any championship team in WNBA history is now retired. Honored to be in the arena for all four Lynx Championships. The end of an era.

new GOAT emoji:
the 🐐 is the most used emoji in tweets about her along with 🤯
she's the female athlete most referred to as goat on twitter this year
6% of all her mentions also reference her being the goat

stuck with me. Women with confidence are often wrongly labeled as arrogant. As women, we can't afford to shrink out of fear of being misunderstood. Choose your confidence, choose greatness, choose to inspire.
My Dad was convicted of a felony at 24 years old & was told that he would never have the right to vote. After missing his opportunity to vote for the first black president twice, my Dad found out at 72 that in the state Georgia he could in fact cast a vote. If you have a family..
A reminder that less than 1% of all sports sponsorships go to women's sports. If you have been enlightened on the power of women athletes after watching the impact of the WNBA on the Georgia Senate race, think about how your organization can back these women & grow their reach.
Yesterday I sat in the host seat for the 1st time in my career! There is nothing like the thrill of trying something new & getting outside of your comfort zone. Covering the WNBA is truly the best job in the world. Keep watching and supporting today on ESPN (Noon) & ABC (3pm)🏀
An emotional
@EWeezy_For3eezy
in her first
@WNBA
All-Star game takes home the MVP trophy. Her Mom and Best Friend passed away July 2012 of cancer so this is always a rough month for Wheeler. She wore a piece pregame that was a gift from a friend “Look Mom I’m an All-Star”🙏🏽
There are WNBA journalists working hard AND spending their own dollars while holding down part-time jobs to cover the league the way it deserves. The call to action needs to be..HIRE THEM. Stop sending unknowledable, sexist, racist, clickbait “media” to cover WBB b/c it’s trendy.
I really hope the growth of the WNBA also leads to a growth in media coverage
I'm really interested in some of these players/storylines I didn't know about before and you need strong writers/journalists to tell those stories
22 Games In 33 Days😱
5 ACC Tourney✅
Big Ten Championship ✅
Pac-12 Championship ✅
15 NCAA Tourney Games in 15 days✅
This season I pushed myself WAY beyond what I thought was possible. To finish it off with my 1st Final 4 was a dream come true.
Thank you Lord🙏🏽

When
@KDTrey5
could be courtside at
@NBA
Summer League, instead he is courtside watching and supporting Girls AAU Basketball. But no one cares about girls and women playing basketball..except Kevin Durant🤷🏾♀️
I’ve had to come to grips with the fact that every time I see Maya Moore I will feel emotional. Her departure from the WNBA though beautiful for her life purpose, it was traumatic for me. I’m not okay. What an honor to cover her career.
🚨ANNOUNCEMENT🚨
Tonight
@RisingMStars
own
@ZoraStephenson
will be moving from the sideline to the booth to serve as play-by-play for
@Bucks
! We are so proud of Zora & this historical moment as she is the first woman to call a game for the
@NBA
Milwaukee Bucks!
BEYOND PROUD😭
Imagine leaving the Target Center after shootaround and having no idea you would walk into this. For those of us who have loved and supported the WNBA for a long time, these are the seemingly "little" heavenly moments that bring tears to your eyes. Glad I was there to witness it.
Ugh this moment🥹😭And honestly Muffet has been an advocate and mentor for a lot of women that don’t look like her including me. She was speaking my name is rooms when I wasn’t there to fight for my own opportunities. Forever grateful☘️
We wondered who would pick up where Kobe left off in the commitment to ensure the WNBA is thriving beyond acknowledgement from the NBA. Encouraging investment here from
@KyrieIrving
.
Kyrie Irving is committing $1.5 million to supplement the income of WNBA players who choose not to play this season, whether it be because of coronavirus concerns or social justice reasons.
I hope that everyone who randomly weighs in on women’s basketball finds a way to go from casual to committed. That could be Fans, media, whatever your role might be, please feel free to join the movement year around. These women deserve the support.
#NCAAW
AND people who have said nothing all about the racial issues in our country to this point posting about MLK. I'm sure MLK would prefer you join his legacy and fight for equality rather than you "post" to be respecting what he stood for.
People often ask me why I chose to cover women's sports full-time. I get to walk into a gym every day & by example, remind young women of the power & strength they possess & the level of respect they deserve. Society isn't showing or telling them that they matter so WE have to.
Candace Parker has become the most influential player in the WNBA when it comes to mainstream marketing, endorsements, visibility, social media. Someone needs to write THAT article. And rewind it all the way back to when they didn’t select her for the Olympic team. I’ll wait.
Definitely one of the highlights and surprises of my Final Four weekend was
@Reese10Angel
jumping out of her seat when I came in the lockeroom. She wants to get into sports broadcasting. If they won’t change the narrative..WE WILL. Congrats Champ!💛💜

People can say what they want about former athletes getting head coaching jobs but NO ONE will take more pride in their alma mater or any coaching job than someone who has poured blood, sweat, and tears ON THE COURT. You are a competitor for LIFE, this is not just a job to them.
Watching these remarks by Dawn, and I can hear the pain in her voice. As a black woman who was once called a “diva” by someone in media in attempt to paint me in an unfavorable light, these tired narratives about black women are lies, hurtful & WRONG.
Pau Gasol has been coached by Phil Jackson & Gregg Popovich. He is in FULL support of Becky Hammon's NBA HC candidacy, including speaking to her effectiveness as an asst w/ the Spurs. If you disagree & have been coached by 2 of the greatest NBA HC of all time, feel free to @ me.
Thank you to everyone that watched and sent kind messages while I was filling in for Malika hosting
@NBA
today! The crew in LA was amazing to work with. I’m getting in reps to one day host a
@WNBA
show. It’s going to happen and I can’t wait!
I remember my Mom NOT being a fan of me playing basketball until she found out I could get a free education. As one of 16 children and the only college graduate, I know for SURE basketball changed the trajectory of my life. Oh, the places sports will take you.
#NGWSD
And to the
@WNBA
fans you are the best on the planet. This league is growing because of YOU. Thank you for every Game you watch, tweet you send, Jersey or orange Hoodie you wear, league pass subscription you buy, trolls you argue with, they can’t keep great women down! Thank You!
I first met
@staceyabrams
back in 2007 as she was a MAJOR part of bringing a WNBA team to Atlanta to begin with.
She helped to recruit the team, find a buyer, create the narrative, negotiate the deal, build the infrastructure, Stacey Abrams & the WNBA go WAY back. (
@Forbes
)
It’s laughable that people are shocked by Chennedy Carter’s talent. The media needs to take responsibility for not giving her more publicity. It’s time for everyone to check their bias and start being honest about why you choose to cover or highlight one athlete over another.
